South Region Chiefs Pledge Support to Paul Biya Ahead of Presidential Election
Over 40 traditional rulers from the South Region reaffirmed their unwavering loyalty to President Paul Biya during a political consultation held at the Presidency on Tuesday.
The meeting, chaired by Minister of State and Secretary General at the Presidency Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh, brought together chiefs from the Mvila, Vallée du Ntem, Dja-et-Lobo, and Océan divisions.
In a symbolic gesture, the delegation presented President Biya with a majestic throne, described as a mark of “loyalty and unshakable fidelity” to the Head of State, fondly referred to as Nnom Ngui’i (chief of chiefs) in the region.
According to Higher Education Minister Jacques Fame Ndongo, who attended the session, the rulers also renewed their “total and unconditional support” for Biya’s candidacy in the October 12 presidential election.
President Paul Biya, in power since 1982, is seeking an eighth term. He faces 11 challengers, including former ministers Bello Bouba Maigari and Issa Tchiroma Bakary, both of whom resigned from government ahead of the polls.
