Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, a 69-year-old from Chicago, Illinois, has been elected as the 267th pope, taking the name Leo XIV. He becomes the first pope from the United States in history.

Known for his global leadership and pastoral sensitivity, Pope Leo XIV spent many years as a missionary in South America and most recently served as the head of a key Vatican office overseeing bishop appointments. His election signals a commitment to continuing the reforms initiated by Pope Francis.

In a symbolic gesture during his first address, Pope Leo XIV referenced a world "held hostage by division, suffering, and injustice," and called for unity, compassion, and courageous dialogue across all nations and faiths.

This week has been a deadly one on Cameroon's roads 😭😭😭.

Last night, a tragic accident occurred on the Douala-Yaounde road around Edea, claiming 12 lives. A United Express bus traveling at high speed collided with a stranded trailer, resulting in the loss of 12 innocent lives.

The accident has left many shaken, with several others suffering severe injuries. This incident brings the total number of fatalities on Cameroon's roads to around 40 within just one week.

The moral lesson here is that reckless driving is a major problem in our country. We need to look beyond just the condition of our roads and address the issue of irresponsible driving. Cameroon Congosa Coner.

Drivers, your duty is to transport people safely to their destinations, not to engage in a competition. Slow down and prioritize the lives of your passengers. Üñclë Mëdiä

Cameroon's Minister of Transport has issued a stern warning to stakeholders in the road transport sector: selling medicines or pharmaceutical products without approval is strictly forbidden in bus stations and public transport vehicles. This measure aims to combat counterfeit medicines and illicit trafficking, with penalties in place for those who violate the rules.

President Paul Biya has made some significant appointments to the topmost organ of the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (CPDM), the country's ruling party. The Fon of Mankon, Sultan of Bamoun, and the Lamidos of Maroua and Garoua are among the 28 new members appointed to the CPDM Central Committee.

Notably, HRM Fru Asa Angwafor IV of Mankon, who is among the newly appointed members, will continue his father's legacy, HRM Angwafor III, who served as the CPDM's Vice President from 1990 until his passing in 2022.

The inclusion of traditional rulers in the CPDM Central Committee raises concerns about the political neutrality of Chiefs in Cameroon. This move is seen as a strategic step to consolidate support ahead of the 2025 presidential elections, where the CPDM will be vying for power.

Thousands of Cameroonians 🇨🇲 living in the US🇱🇷 under Temporary Protected Status (TPS) are facing an uncertain future. The Trump administration's plans to revoke temporary legal status for migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela has sparked concerns that similar policies could soon affect Cameroonians seeking refuge in the US.

With June 7, 2025, approaching, Cameroonians with TPS are worried about their future. TPS is a vital humanitarian program that offers temporary legal status to individuals from countries experiencing severe crises. However, the Trump administration has signaled plans to phase out TPS protections post-2026, threatening legal status and work authorization for vulnerable migrant communities.

Here are some key points to consider:

-TPS Extension: President Biden extended TPS designations for individuals from Venezuela, El Salvador, Ukraine, and Sudan, providing an additional 18 months of deportation relief and work authorization.
- Trump's Plans: The Trump administration plans to roll back these protections, continuing efforts from his first term to end TPS for several countries.
- Impact on Cameroonians: While the current TPS extension does not directly affect Cameroonians, the Trump administration's plans to phase out TPS protections could have far-reaching consequences for Cameroonians seeking refuge in the US.

Stay informed and engaged to learn more about TPS and related programs. Visit the official USCIS page regarding TPS for updates.

Niger's decision to withdraw from the La Francophonie is a significant move, especially considering they've already withdrawn from ECOWAS.¹ This choice suggests Niger is reevaluating its international partnerships and alignments.

As a member of La Francophonie, Niger was part of a collective that promotes French language and culture among former French colonies. Cameroon, having been colonized by France, is also a member.

Niger's withdrawal might indicate a desire to distance itself from its colonial past and forge new relationships. However, without more information, it's difficult to say what specifically motivated this decision.

What are your thoughts on Niger's move? Do you think this will have significant implications for the region? Üñclë Mëdiä
