Nkongsamba: Football in the Service of Fraternity Between Catholics and Presbyterians
By Appolinaire KAMENI
Following the dedication of seven new members of the Catholic Men Association during a Eucharistic celebration presided over on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Loum Ngodi Parish by Dieudonné Espoir Atangana, the spirit of Christian communion continued on the football field in Nkongsamba.
This Saturday, May 9, 2026, the Catholic Men Association of Saint Jude Thaddeus Parish of Nkongsamba played a friendly gala match against the Christian Men Fellowship of the Presbyterian Church of Cameroon. The encounter was marked by fellowship, peace, and Christian unity.
In a warm atmosphere filled with songs, cheers, and emotions, both teams offered an entertaining sporting spectacle appreciated by the many faithful and supporters who came out to witness the special occasion. On the sporting side, the Catholic Men Association of Saint Jude Thaddeus Parish won the match by 3 goals to 1. Yet beyond the scoreline, the true focus remained fraternity in Christ.
There was neither winner nor loser in spirit. The real victory was that of brotherly love, mutual respect, and the strengthening of ties between Christian communities sharing the same faith in God and the same spiritual mission: to seek Christ, know Him, and do His will.
Coordinated by the president of the parish council, Dr Théodore Tameh Yangsi, the initiative helped reinforce social cohesion between Catholic and Presbyterian faithful in the city of Nkongsamba. Through sports, the organizers sought to promote a strong message of peace, tolerance, and living together in harmony at a time when such values deserve greater encouragement.
This fraternal encounter also formed part of the activities leading up to the solemn presentation of the new Catholic men of Saint Jude Thaddeus Parish. These members are now called to actively support the mission of the Church by following the example of Saint Joseph through humility, responsibility, faithfulness, and a spirit of service.
The Eucharistic celebration marking their official presentation will take place this Sunday, May 10, 2026, at Saint Jude Thaddeus Parish in Nkongsamba. It will be presided over by the parish priest, Abbé Joseph Antoine Pepka.
In Nkongsamba, this spiritual and sporting gathering will remain a living testimony that sports can serve as a powerful instrument for unity, dialogue, and communion among people and Christian denominations.
