Solar-powered car, manufactured by Cameronians from scratch

In a stunning leap for sustainable innovation, a team of young engineers in Cameroon has developed a solar-powered electric car prototype — right here on home soil. Yes, you read that right.

A locally designed, solar-charged vehicle is now moving through the streets of Douala, and it’s not science fiction — it’s Cameroonian brilliance in motion.

This groundbreaking prototype — led by automotive engineer Yongjoh Regobert Tanui from the National Higher Polytechnic School of Douala — is designed to:

✅ Carry 4 passengers

✅ Hit speeds of up to 80 km/h

✅ Run on clean, renewable solar energy (with backup power options)

Despite Cameroon receiving an impressive 5–6 kWh/m²/day of solar radiation, much of this clean energy remains untapped. This team is challenging that reality — and the results speak for themselves.

Now at 80% completion, the vehicle is already functional and driving. What’s left? Just finishing and painting.

This team has built a smart 'breast wear' that can detect breast cancer early — saving thousands of lives in Cameroon.

Called , the device uses AI, ultrasound, and thermal imaging to make screening accessible and affordable. Behind this innovation are four brilliant minds: Abdoul Azis, Anzia Juvis, Baimam Boukar Jean Jacques, and Chendjou Chendjou Honoré.

The team recently clinched 2nd place at Cameroon’s Innovation Week, a big win for local healthtech.

Silicon Mountain wins a prestigious National Award 📣📣

Silicon Mountain Buea was greatly honored at the Cameroon Week of Scientific Research and Innovation
yesterday for its continues growing contribution to local innovation.

JONGO HUB, one of the numerous tech hubs in Silicon mountain represented the community with four standout solutions which won Cameroon's Special Prize for Youth Innovation from the Ministry of Scientific Research and Innovation.

The award celebrates four solutions showcased by Jongo Hub, among which is , an early warning and disaster alert system.

Jungo Hub also showcased , a digital waste-to-wealth platform promoting sustainable community development and Resilink, a research collaboration and databanking platform.

The award brings pride to Silicon Mountain, the largest tech community in Central Africa, and further streamlines the city of Buea as a hub for tech innovation.

These innovators Built a Freezer That Doesn’t Use Electricity — Helping Farmers Save Millions in Post-Harvest Loss

AgricFresh Sarl, a Cameroonian startup solving one of agriculture’s biggest problems: post harvest food spoilage.

Their solar-powered cold storage units keep produce fresh for up to 21 days, even in areas without stable electricity — saving farmers money and reducing waste.
