LIONEL MESSI, LAST DANCE 🇦🇷💔
On a night charged with emotion at the Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires, Lionel Messi may have played his final match on Argentine soil for the national team. The Albiceleste triumphed 3–0 over Venezuela in a World Cup 2026 qualifier, but the scoreline was only part of the story. The evening belonged to Messi.
From the moment he stepped onto the pitch, accompanied by his three children during the national anthem, the crowd of 80,000 erupted in chants and ovations. Tears welled in Messi’s eyes as he soaked in the love of his people—his final bow in front of a home crowd that had adored him for decades.
Messi delivered a masterclass, scoring twice: first with a delicate lob after a slick pass from Julián Álvarez, and later with a clinical finish from a Thiago Almada cross. Lautaro Martínez added the second goal in between, but it was Messi’s double that sealed the night in glory.
After the final whistle, Messi addressed the crowd with emotion:
“To end like this, it’s what I always dreamed of. To live this moment here, in my country, with my people—it’s unforgettable.”
Though he hasn’t officially retired from international football, Messi confirmed this was his last qualifier in Argentina. At 38, with 194 caps and 114 goals, he now looks ahead to what could be his final World Cup in 2026.
