YouTube has published its 2025 Nigeria Year-in-Review, outlining the country’s most-viewed music videos, creators, and entertainment content.
At the top of the music category is Gaise Baba’s No Turning Back II, featuring Lawrence Oyor, which has garnered more than 41 million views within six months—placing him ahead of leading secular artistes.
Gaise Baba’s progress reflects a combination of academic grounding and artistic clarity. He holds a degree in Economics from Obafemi Awolowo University and a Diploma in Music Business from Berklee College of Music, qualifications that contribute to his strategic approach to his craft.
His path to music was unplanned. As a child, he considered careers in law and aeronautical engineering. His turning point came at King’s College Lagos, where singing in the school choir gave him his first meaningful connection to music.
After graduation, missing that experience prompted him to begin writing songs, eventually setting him on his current trajectory.
His Afro-fusion style—expressed through Yoruba, English, and Pidgin—initially faced hesitation from both mainstream and faith-based audiences. Over time, however, persistence helped broaden its acceptance.
