The Appearance Of The Majority, The Error Of Statistics (Exodus 23:2)
Our society has irreversibly accepted the option of giving reason to the majority in all areas of life. Thus, we have democracy where it is the majority that wins in conflict resolution, in families… This orientation is found in all fields: in the economy, in sciences, jurisdictions, and even in churches where certain decisions are taken by the majority of people… It is for this reason that a scientific method was thought of to convince and visualize the majority by inventing statistical calculations.
The power of statistics pushes society to quickly conform to the opinion of the majority. But in reality, most often statistics are incapable of telling the truth, helping instead to move away from it. I remember a pastor who, speaking of his “church,” said that 50% of his Christians were foreigners, whereas in reality they were only 04 people. Statistics thus appear as a manipulationof reality. During an election for example, we are told that such a candidate obtained 56% of the votes and becomes the winner. But often we are not told howmany people took part in this vote and how many did not.
The way of the majority is not the way of truth. That is why in Exodus 23:2 it is written: “Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest judgment.” This is because one often needs the multitude to legitimize deviation. This ideology is supported by the thought according to which “vox populi vox dei” that is to say the voice of the people is the voice of GOD. Not at all! GOD is not the people, and experience has shown that the crowd has always been on the side opposed to GOD. The truth is not in the majority, but in singularity, for it is the fruit of work which leads to the knowledge of the very essence of things. The crowd does not have this time for research and investigation, and gives itself over to ease.
In the time of JESUS, Pilate, knowing that he was handing over an innocent man into the hands of murderers, could not resist, for the majority, manipulated by the adversaries of JESUS, cried: “Crucify him!” Yet, JESUS in His singularity, was in the truth. Even in the time of Noah already, the whole earth had risen against GOD, in an immense and very immense majority. Only the house of Noah, that is 8 persons, had refused this “absolute” majority. It was however this minority that was in the truth. It was the same in the time of Lot where only he and his two daughters were saved from the destruction of S***m, an extreme minority, while the extreme majority burned in the flames of GOD’s wrath.
Thanks to statistical evidence, inhuman laws are voted, criminal decisions are taken. Thanks to polls, one seeks to do what the majority of people desire. What is funny is that even Christians allow themselves to be influenced by this wind, to the point of finding certain sins acceptable because the majority of people do them. Hence the travesty in religious circles, immorality, ungodliness with the use of wigs, makeup, skin bleaching, and absurd doctrines intended to support these deviations.
The apostle Paul had already said to the Christians: “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” (Romans 12:2). This is moreover what Peter takes up again in 1 Peter 1:14, and the apostle John adds: “ Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” (1 John 2:15).
The truth is of GOD, and to sustain it one does not need to be in a majority. He who is with GOD is in the absolute majority, according to the saying: “ one with God is a majority .” The Christian is of the truth, he is the light of the World. One does not need much light to shine. Seeking the way of the majority to walk leads into extreme pain.
JESUS-CHRIST also said: “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14).
