pre-order now (Aloe-005)

This album originated from Takahiro Kawaguchi’s short visit to Seoul last year, where he held recording sessions at dotolim, Seoul’s historic experimental music venue. What can be revealed is that, Kawaguchi use dripping water from suspended infusion containers onto a smartphone running a music application, producing unpredictable sounds. In addition to this, Jin has developed his latest hard drive system, a personalized system of acoustic/electronic percussion — equally full of unpredictability. The two artists’ semi-automated systems share distinct roles, functioning like two band members.

pre-order now (Aloes-001)

Aloes’ trio/group series is excited to present its debut album ‘under under hill’: An exquisite collection explores resonance and psychoacoustic experiences, achieving remarkable harmony through the interplay of prepared electric guitar, digital signals from laptop, and Bluetooth speakers within the space. Each track carries a distinct fragrance—long-lasting, crisp, and refreshing, with a hint of lightness and sweetness.

Aloes’ trio / group new series is excited to release its first album ‘under under hill’.

Ian Douglas-Moore He is an American musician based in New York City. He uses guitar, electronic tones, and field recordings to examine the textures of layered resonant sounds as they engage with acoustic space. Dominic Coles and Eric Wong they now based in Berlin. Dominic Coles’s work investigates the interactions of place, personhood, and power as they are articulated in sound, attempting to complicate and intervene in these categories through specific acts of technologically mediated listening. He runs ‘Party Perfect!!!’ with Hunter Brown. Eric Wong is both a guitarist and electronic musician. As an electronic musician, he focuses on utilizing smartphones and Bluetooth speakers for his compositions and performances. He has released ‘Dzan-puku’ (Aloe-004) with Seiji Morimoto on Aloe Records.

Another one is was recorded after the duo performed at Aloe on-site 20. The tracks were captured separately: one evening in an underground passageway and another during daytime studio sessions.

Zhao Cong is an experimental musician based in Beijing. She uses a variety of everyday objects, amplified by pickups from a variety of microphones, to bring out unfamiliar and heterogeneous sounds. She has released solo album ‘55355’ (Alone-004) on Aloe Records in 2023. Kevin Corcoran based in San Francisco, He is a percussionist and sound artist whose work engages with sonic material across a multiplicity of domains, using a variety of approaches such as improvised performance, field recordings and sound installations.

Three releases are coming soon. The first is a collaborative recording from last year at dotolim in Seoul by Jin Sangtae and Takahiro Kawaguchi.

Jin Sangtae is a Seoul based sound artist and improviser. He is interested in reconstruction of non-instrumental material from his life experience. Working at an electronic market in Seoul, he began using mechanical computer hard drives for improvised music and this has become his main instrument. Takahiro Kawaguchi is Tokyo based sound artist and improviser. The objects used in Kawaguchi’s performances and installations apparently seems strange, but most of them are the emsemble of phenomena which surface by liberating the daily goods from their uses or definition.

releases now (Alone-013)

"Fat City is my first band. Ma Meng and I started rehearsal in late 2008, and we stopped activities at the beginning of 2013. At that time we really wrote a bunch of songs. Thanks to some suitable opportunities, I decided to do a special performance at Xiaozu Works on November 1st, 2024, using the lyrics of Fat City as performing materials. I printed all these lyrics on paper, and during the performance I cut them into fragments and picked them randomly and read. The process lasted long time, meanwhile I used a four-track cassette recorder recording and playing back. Forward, reverse, fast and slow. Twenty four lyrics in total. This is all the lyrics I can find, but there are still some forgotten. Now these songs sound like the same song. They have always been like this." - Zhu Wenbo

releases now (Alone-012)

'paper-gore' was recorded during Choi Joonyong 2011 STEIM residency in Amsterdam (accompanied by Ryu Hankil and Hong Chulki). Remixed and mastered after 14 years. This is a fascinating album where frequencies, dynamics, left and right channels are pushed to the limit. Choi Joonyong touches the fast-spinning VCRs with paper, and the friction affects the rotation speed, leaving noise, sharp high frequencies that pierce the ears, and sometimes distorted low frequencies from the paper slapping. In addition to the hum of the machine, the physical properties of the paper also cause a subtle change in the sound.

Zhu Wenbo is a multi-instrumentalist and composer who is dedicated to "music that doesn't sound like music". Fat City (2008-2013) was founded by Zhu Wenbo and Ma Meng. contains elements of lo-fi, krautrock, noise rock, etc., one of the representatives of Beijing D-22 and other underground rock memories. Years later, during a performance at the Xiaozu Works, Zhu Wenbo reorganized the lyrics to become collage-style Chinese reading and four-track cassette recorder shifted voices, that seem to see William S. Burroughs and David Lynch's shadows.

Two releases coming soon, they have memories, time, paper media, and seem to be new again. 'paper-gore' was recorded during Choi Joonyong’s 2011 STEIM residency in Amsterdam (with Ryu Hankil and Hong Chulki). Remixed and mastered after 14 years. This is a fascinating album of frequencies, dynamics, and left and right channels going to extremes.

Choi Joonyong is a bad voice of noise / experimental / improvisation music in Seoul. In the early days, he mistakenly created light industrial electronic noise using playback devices such as CD players, MP3 players, tape players, VCRs and speakers... In his solo performances in recent years he has shifted to a more conceptual post-fluxus performance, where he is interested in control and failure of playing through improvisation and composition.
