We're calling all little photographers and artists to participate in our MY SHANGHAI PICTURE CONTEST!🏆

GET CREATIVE! Take a photo📸 of yourself at your favourite place/doing your favourite thing in Shanghai OR make a drawing🎨 inspired by what you love about the city along with a short description.

“My Shanghai” is an award-winning picture book for children of all ages 0+. It takes you on a wanderlust-fueled adventure through the city, from the earliest sunrise until city lights begin to twinkle against the dark night sky. Featuring 18 iconic spots from busy streets like Huaihai Road and Nanjing East Road to the little lanes and alleyways where old neighbourhood friends gather for Chinese chess. This is a book where each page tells a story of its own.

Photos and drawing submissions will be displayed at the Shanghai Book Fair from Aug 16th to 22nd and also on IP SHANGHAI Shanghai City Image Resource Sharing Platform (www.ipshanghai.cn). On August 19th from 10am – 11am, the authors of “My Shanghai” will attend a meet-and-greet and book signing, and will present awards to the winners of My Shanghai Picture Contest. Submit your photo/drawing as instructed below and get your work displayed at the Shanghai Book Fair!

Step 2: Submit your photo/drawing with Name/Age/Description by sending a message to the official account by Aug 15th

WINNERS & PRIZES
All submissions will be displayed and winners in each age group (0-3yo; 4-7yo; 8yo+) will be announced at the Shanghai Book Fair on Aug 19th 10am.

In remote antiquity, the Yellow River Valley was stricken by rampant floods year after year, which brought great calamities to the country and the people.🤕 Yu, leader of the Xia tribe, was appointed by Emperor Shun to tame the floods. In the face of surging floods, Yu learned lessons from the failure of his predecessors to control the waters and with the help of mystery elves🧚(he even turned into a bear!🐻), changed the method of "blocking" and channeled the floods. He dredged new river channels as outlets, guiding water to river and to sea.🌏

Thereby Yu brought the Yellow River under permanent control and resettled the homeless people. 🏅Yu was revered as Yu the Great for his achievement and selected to succeed to the throne by Shun.👑

🎖Gasuo, is the last war elephant🐘 that survived the War of Resistance Against Japan. 🐾When he knew that his life was about over, he put on the saddle again and came to the Daluo River🌊 to cherish the past and mourn the battlefield. Near the end of his life, he dug a hole beside the "Hundred Elephant Tomb" where his comrades were buried, and solemnly buried himself. 💚

🏵The war elephant Gasuo is kind and loyal, as if a hero full of admiration, giving children a great spiritual inspiration.

🔥Do you believe that once there was a magic coat would help you out of the big threating fire?

All these unbelievable magic🧞‍♂️ happened on Shun, a legendary ancient emperor and one of the Five Emperors. 🍀After reading this, you must feel that Shun is a very lucky person. But that’s not the truth, his stepmother and half-brother Xiang plotted to kill him for many times: They let Shun revamp the roof of granary and set fire under the barn, they also let Shun dig a well but filled soil to the well while the digging…😈

💪Did Shun turned to revenge? No, he didn’t. Afterwards, Shun didn't resent and was still humble to his stepmother and loved his younger brother. Emperor Yao selected Shun as his successor and Shun ascended the throne as the Son of Heaven.🤴

👑Being a governor is never an easy task. Along the history, monarchs’ lives are always luxury and extravagant. How about the life of our today’s character—Emperor Yao?

🎋Emperor Yao lives in a house covered with thatch. The beams and pillars in the house are made of logs that have not even been planned. 🍚He eats coarse rice and drinks plain vegetable soup. 🦌Wears a jacket made of deerskin in winter and linen clothes in summer.
