A Chinese maritime court has successfully mediated a dispute that had arisen from a collision between two foreign vessels near the Strait of Hormuz, China's Supreme People's Court (SPC) said on Monday.

The case involved claims reaching 180 million yuan (about $26.5 million) and the Antigua-and-Barbuda-flagged "Adalynn" and the Liberia-flagged "Front Eagle".

The two ships collided in June 2025, in waters near the Strait of Hormuz. While "Front Eagle" was undergoing repairs in Guangdong's Shenzhen, the owner of "Adalynn" applied to the Guangzhou Maritime Court (GMC) for an order to arrest the vessel. Both foreign parties agreed to have the GMC hear the case and selected Chinese law as the governing law for resolving the substantive issues in dispute.

Recent development in the negotiations indicated that U.S. President Donald Trump's options for walking away from the war against Iran have "narrowed," The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday.

Trump for weeks "had been laying the groundwork to declare victory in the Iran war should Tehran fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz, even floating the idea privately to senior aides that he's willing to walk away without a nuclear deal," the report cited U.S. officials as saying.

China's icebreaker Xuelong 2 began its first ice station survey operation in the central Arctic Ocean on Sunday, near 84 degrees north latitude, during the country's 16th Arctic expedition.

The icebreaker will carry out more than 20 research tasks at seven ice stations, including deploying ice-based drifting buoys, collecting ice cores and conducting remote sensing observations of sea ice.

The mission aims to collect comprehensive data on changes in the Arctic environment, including the atmosphere, sea ice, upper ocean and under-ice ecosystems amid the region's melting sea ice.

Date palms at plantations operated by the Coconut Research Institute of the CATAS have recently entered their fruiting stage. In Wenchang, south China's Hainan Province, eight date palm varieties that first bore fruit in 2025 have produced fruit again this year.

From 2021 to 2024, the UAE donated a total of 25,000 date palm seedlings to China in two batches. CATAS received the seedlings and started nurturing them in Hainan.
