Today's Buzz: "Position Unchanged"

According to media reports, several senior Japanese officials claimed that the recent Taiwan-related remarks by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi did not change the government's existing position, and Japan has no intention to retract them.

On the question, the Japanese government should adhere to the one-China principle and abide by the principles enshrined in the four political documents between China and Japan, rather than deliberately blur relevant concepts or attempt to reverse the course of history, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning told a daily press briefing.

She went on to say that if Japan's position regarding Taiwan truly remains unchanged, then its leader should not associate the so-called "survival-threatening situation" with the Taiwan question. The mere statement of "position unchanged" can in no way address China's concerns, Mao added.

Mao urged the Japanese side to take China's solemn demands seriously, retract the erroneous remarks, and earnestly translate its commitments into real actions. (Photo: Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China)

Today's Buzz: Strict and Resolute Countermeasures

The erroneous remarks made by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi have fundamentally undermined the political foundation of China–Japan relations and have aroused public anger and condemnation among the Chinese people, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said at a daily press briefing on November 19 in response to a related query.

China earnestly urges to withdraw its erroneous remarks, stop creating incidents on China-related issues, take concrete actions to admit its mistakes and correct deviations, and safeguard the political foundation of China–Japan relations, she said.

If the Japanese side refuses to withdraw its wrongful remarks on or continues to repeat the same mistake, China will have no choice but to take strict and resolute countermeasures, Mao said, noting that all consequences arising from this will be borne by the Japanese side.
