🌟 A Smooth Start, A lasting Bond

At LoPair, we believe every au pair's first day in China sets the tone for a meaningful journey. That's why our team ensures each newcomer is warmly welcomed and fully supported from the moment they arrive.

From helping them settle into their new home to guiding their first interactions with host families, we're there every step of the way. Seeing their smiles and hearing their excited feedback reminds us why we're passionate about building bridges across cultures.

In Western culture, the number 13 is considered unlucky, but in China these numbers are taken a lot more seriously. 😯

For example, the number 4️⃣ is considered very unlucky because in Chinese it sounds like the word for death. So much so, that you’ll often see elevators without a fourth floor!

The numbers 8️⃣, 6️⃣, 2️⃣, and 9️⃣ are considered to be lucky as well, particularly the number 8. You’ll often see these numbers crammed into phone numbers, registration plates, business names etc. 🎱

Red is the luckiest colour in Chinese culture, representing good fortune, joy, celebration, and prosperity. You’ll see red everywhere, from the flag 🇨🇳 to red envelopes🧧 and especially at Chinese New Year🏮
If you head to New Year celebrations, you’ll see almost everyone wearing red to mark the occasion and to attract good spirits and ward off evil.

On your Zodiac year (looking at you, snakes🐍) you are supposed to wear red every day – many Chinese will wear red accessories and underwear every day to ward off evil spirits. You can expect to receive red-coloured gifts during your Zodiac year.

The Qixi Festival, also known as Chinese Valentine's Day, is a traditional Chinese festival that celebrates a romantic legend about two lovers, Niulang and Zhinü. This year, 七夕节 falls on Friday, 29th August and couples will celebrate this day in all the typical ways you might expect like exchanging gifts, flowers and going on romantic dates. Some might even celebrate by stargazing and looking out for Vega (Zhinü) and Altair (Niulang) in the Milky Way.
