When photo journalist David Hartung first visited Macau 22 years ago, it was a quaint, somewhat sleepy little fishing port. He couldn’t believe what he found. Macau had come alive; changes in its economy, its society, its lifestyle were everywhere. Fascinated by this transformation, David saw all around him a challenge to his photo reportage skills. He moved to the Special Administrative region to

document the new world that Macau had become. It is a task that continues and one he believes may never be completed. David Hartung’s latest project is a photographic essay, “Macau: Work in Progress,” is a remarkable account of this city’s contemporary urban form. In this sense, it is, in its truthfulness, also an invitation to think.
