Exploring China’s Green Energy Innovation
On September 10, International guests participating in the “Global Civilization Dialogues Rendezvous with the Orchid” exchange tour visited LONGi Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd. in Xi’an, learning about the company’s solar and energy storage technologies and its efforts to advance the global transition toward clean energy.
During the visit, Alex Matthew Lamb, Assistant Professor at the College of Artificial Intelligence, Tsinghua University, said the experience allowed him to see technologies he had previously only heard about, including solar roofs, AI-assisted defect detection in manufacturing and innovative solar panel designs.
Reflecting on the potential of solar energy in the Global South, Alex noted that countries where reliable access to electricity remains a challenge are increasingly turning to solutions such as household solar power. He highlighted the importance of finding effective ways to finance and scale up such development.
He also pointed to the potential of combining renewable energy, ecological restoration and computing infrastructure in western China. In his view, solar installations can help combat desertification while providing clean energy for data centers—showing how technological innovation can support both environmental protection and future development.
