Art is revolutionary, and mujeres are revolutionary. We see that power reflected in ’s latest project, “Mujeres Revolucionaria.”
Director Carolina Isabel Salazar told that the inspiration behind the project came from the belief that “the revolution has always been and will always be led by women.”
Growing up hearing about the Guatemalan Revolution, the director-photographer says those stories have helped shape her. And amid the ongoing ICE raids, she felt called to create with intention and awaken the “hidden guerreros” within our communities.
“As I continued to develop this project, I became very curious about the idea of re-programming and how it has been used in media to influence, educate, or even sway values and ideas,” she shared with us. “I wanted to take that heavy creative choice and transcend it for a positive purpose — to channel higher frequencies through visuals and words. To reignite the fire in people to take a stance, whether big or small. To not forget who we are, the power we hold in our blood, traditions, and our connection with Mother Nature. This is solely a speech to my people that it’s time to fight back.” 🗣️👏♥️
