On this day, Mexican Salvador Sánchez defeated Ghanaian Azumah Nelson by technical knockout (TKO) in the 15th round. The legendary fight took place on July 21, 1982, at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Sánchez successfully defended his World Boxing Council (WBC) featherweight title.
This battle is considered one of the greatest classics in boxing history. It marked the last fight of Salvador Sánchez's life and the emergence of Azumah Nelson as a future international legend.
