On this day, Mexican Salvador Sánchez defeated Ghanaian Azumah Nelson by technical knockout (TKO) in the 15th round. The legendary fight took place on July 21, 1982, at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Sánchez successfully defended his World Boxing Council (WBC) featherweight title.

This battle is considered one of the greatest classics in boxing history. It marked the last fight of Salvador Sánchez's life and the emergence of Azumah Nelson as a future international legend.

On this day, undefeated boxer "Sugar" Shane Mosley knocked out Adrian Stone in the third round on July 21, 2001, to retain his World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight title. The main event took place at the prestigious Caesars Palace hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Initial Development: British challenger Adrian Stone started tentatively in the first round, trying to find his range. During the second round, he managed to put some pressure on Mosley, fighting close and trying to disrupt his rhythm.

The Outcome: In the third round, Mosley completely figured out Stone's strategy. "Sugar" Shane landed a lethal series of right crosses to the Briton's head, leaving him severely shaken.

The Final Knockout: A powerful, devastating left hook sent Stone crashing to the canvas on his back. Referee Jay Nady immediately stopped the fight when he saw that the challenger could not continue, declaring the official knockout at 2 minutes and 1 second of the third round

On this day, the fight between Fernando "Cochulito" Montiel and Pedro "Rockero" Alcázar took place on June 22, 2002, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mexican boxer Fernando Montiel defeated then-champion Pedro Alcázar of Panama by technical knockout (TKO) in the sixth round, taking his World Boxing Organization (WBO) super flyweight title.

This fight is primarily remembered for the subsequent tragedy, as Alcázar died two days later from a stroke caused by the aftereffects of the blows he received.

The Fight: The bout served as the undercard for the historic rematch between Marco Antonio Barrera and Érik Morales. Montiel punished Alcázar severely, targeting his head, until the referee stopped the fight in the sixth round with the Panamanian still on his feet.

The Initial Medical Examination: Immediately after the final bell, Alcázar was examined ringside by neurologists and doctors from the Nevada State Athletic Commission. He was declared healthy, as he showed no visible symptoms or apparent trauma.

On this day in 1881, Tommy Burns (born Noah Brusso) was born. He was a legendary Canadian professional boxer who made history by becoming the only Canadian-born heavyweight to win the world championship, also remaining the shortest heavyweight champion in history.

Achievements and Historical Legacy: World Championship: He won the world title on February 23, 1906, after defeating Marvin Hart in a 20-round decision.

Title Defenses: He made 13 successful defenses against 11 different opponents over a period of almost three years.

Global Champion: He was the first heavyweight champion to travel the world to defend his title, holding fights in the United States, England, Ireland, France, and Australia.

Breaking the Color Barrier: He defied the racism of the time by declaring that he would defend his title against any challenger, regardless of their nationality or skin color. This led to a historic fight on December 26, 1908, in Sydney against Jack Johnson, making him the first white champion to give an African American a title shot. Burns lost the fight in the 14th round when the police stopped the bout due to the punishment inflicted by Johnson.

Although his promoter Eddie Hearn and trainer Robert Garcia are considering the option of going for another bantamweight title first (as against Christian Medina), they believe the Inoue fight is the second biggest in the sport right now.
