After hiding behind clouds for a full day, Chimborazo finally revealed itself in the cold morning light — and seemed to follow us as we rode on.

Our journey took us south through open Andean roads and small towns until we reached El Tambo, where a hot shower felt like real luxury.

Not far away lies Ingapirca, Ecuador’s most important Inca-Cañari site. Instead of joining a tour, we explored the ancient ruins at our own pace.
From there, we continued toward Cuenca, riding through rolling hills, seeing roadside donkeys and sun-drying cocoa beans — reminded once again that the road between destinations often tells the best stories.

Let’s say Nabón made us work for our bed that night.
But eventually, we settled in.

🏍️ Route: Chimborazo → El Tambo → Ingapirca → Nabon
🌎 Country: Ecuador

From the water-filled crater lake Quilotoa, we continued our ride - chasing big landscapes and even bigger mountains.

Our next destination was Chimborazo, the farthest point from Earth’s center.
Along the way, we were once again on the hunt for something very basic: butane for cooking. Once again, Ecuador reminded us that this is apparently a rare and highly exclusive item. So we rode on.

When we reached our destination for the night, Chimborazo decided to stay hidden — wrapped tightly in clouds, unimpressed by our efforts. Disappointing, yes… but also part of the deal when you’re chasing mountains.

The next morning made up for everything. The clouds lifted, and Chimborazo revealed itself in full glory. I couldn’t stop looking — one of those moments that makes all the missed fuel, detours, and waiting completely worth it. 🤩

After a few days riding in Ecuador - which of course I'll show a more detailed on YouTube - I've seen the Ecuadorian jungle as well as cloud forest, some bird species, various tiny and big cities and some broken paved roads which would have been better to be just gravel.

It was time to inspect the 3km wide water-filled crater lake.
Quilotoa took my breath away - not only because of the stunning colors but also due to the altitude of more than 3500m above sea level.
It was not easy to leave this beautiful place!

The great Santuario de Las Lajas was the last sightseeing🤩, before leaving Colombia and entering Ecuador via the Rumichaca International Bridge.

Leaving Colombia was a peace of cake.

Entering Ecuador was way easier than the German Foreign Office claims on their website - No police clearance certificate with apostille and translation from the country of residence required. Everything went smooth, although it took a few minutes to find the Aduana and have all the necessary information collected. We knew where the VIN is printed on our motorcycles, which sped things up.

After 1900km of riding, an ascent and descent of more than 4000m altitude, some incredible nature and meeting the most polite people, we made it into Ecuador.Riding south-east, we took some offroad streets to make our way to La Bonita, where you may find one or two open restaurants, a few people playing volleyball at a net, that seems to be way too high and a circus, playing the same advertising song almost all night long, without having a show.

Let’s see what amazing sights this country is going to show us!

I was excited to ride the Trampoline of Death, also known as Trampolín de la muerte or Trampolín del Diablo in the south of Colombia. This 74.8 km (46.47 miles) long epic offroad route connects the city of Mocoa with the town of San Francisco. Twists and turns, drop-offs, waterfalls, washouts and lot's of gravel make this ride unforgettable.

After surviving the Trampoline of Death in Colombia, we went further south and had a quick look at the Sanctuary of Las Lajas, a catholic basilica build between 1916 and 1949. After that we finally crossed the border into Ecuador taking the Rumichaca International Bridge. After 25 days in Colombia we are changing Colombian Pesos with American Dollars and continue on some very nice offroad routes.

Offroad riding in wet conditions - Jardin to Manizales

After repairing all the broken bits and pieces, we left Jardin and continued the motorcycle travel towards Manizales, Colombia. For the first time we were facing wet conditions, which got us some muddy trails, waterfilled potholes and misty views.

See for yourself on YouTube. :)

After Guatapé we made our way towards Medellin which we bypassed as far as possible. The next day we rode to the Amagà viaduct, an abandoned railroad bridge. Crossing it didn't went like planned... Watch how it turnes out on YouTube.
