Our flights were literally half our total trip cost — and we still did 10 days in Croatia & Montenegro for under $6K for 2 people (our accommodation prices will SHOCK you)✈️🇭🇷🤯
Comment “GUIDE” for my free PDF with every place we stayed, all our tours, a discount code for activities, and the full 10-day itinerary 🗺️
Here’s how the money broke down 👇
✈️ Flights (Dallas → Dubrovnik): $2,641 for 2 round trip
🏠 Accommodations: $638 out of pocket ($1,138 before credits)
🍷 Food & Drink: $958
🚢 Transit (ferries, taxis, rental car): $650
🎭 Activities & Tours: $650
Grand total: $5,537
We’re mid-range travelers all the way, €3 pastries for breakfast, grab-and-go sandwiches for lunch, but elevated dinners and happy hour every single night because that’s the part that matters 🍷 The one splurge we don’t regret? The Blue Cave boat day from Hvar. Small group, comfortable boat, lunch on the island of Vis — worth every penny.
We stayed in a boutique hotel inside Dubrovnik’s Old Town walls and did local host Airbnbs everywhere else, always prioritizing location, ensuite bathroom, and AC (non-negotiable in peak summer😅)
The $500 in accommodation savings came from the Capital One Venture X — $300 annual travel credit applied straight to our Dubrovnik hotel, plus ~$200 back through their price match guarantee. No foreign transaction fees and it’s a Visa so it actually works in Europe, unlike Amex 👀 I have a full how to guide on using price match as well as an overview of why I love the Venture X as the perfect travel credit card included in my guide.
If we’d booked our flights with points 10 months out like we normally do, this whole trip could have been under $3K for 2.
