FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Unity Party Suspends NEC Members for Delinquency in party’s duties
Monrovia, Liberia – September 14, 2025: The Unity Party (UP) informs its partisans, supporters, and the general public that, in keeping with the Constitution of the Party and in defense of its values of accountability, and discipline, the National Executive Committee in a Special Sitting of September 13, 2025 reached decision to suspend several of its NEC’s members for delinquency in performing their party duties.

Their suspension comes as a result of the persistent failure of the affected NEC members to attend official meetings of the National Executive Committee and their continuous neglect in participating in Party activities, despite repeated reminders.

The Unity Party views these acts of noncompliance and absenteeism as a neglect and complacency of the trust reposed in them and a violation of the obligations of every NEC member to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the Party.

Consistent with articles 19 and 16 sub section 4 of the party’s Constitution, the affected NEC members are suspended for the period of one month, and with a fine of One Thousand United States Dollars (1,000.00) payable to the Unity Party account during the period of their suspension and receipt presented during the next sitting. According to the resolution, any member who fails to comply with this mandate will be expelled from the NEC.

Additionally, the Special Sitting also resolved to urge all delinquent due paying members to pay their outstanding dues within the period of one month, as the sustenance of the party depends largely on party dues and contributions from partisans. Failure on the part of any executive committee member to pay his or her dues during the above specified period will be met with serious consequences consistent with the Unity Party Constitution.

The Unity Party reassures its partisans and the public of its commitment to upholding discipline, unity, and collective responsibility in building a stronger institution that serves the interest of the Liberian people.

‎Rep. Norman allocates half of his salary to local projects amid claims that 2025 LSP Fund Allocations were Diverted to Remove the Former Speaker

‎Bopolu City, September 14, 2025 — Gbarpolu County District #1 Representative Zinnah Norman has raised concerns about what he describes as the alleged government’s withholding of the Legislative Support Project (LSP) Funds intended for his district in 2024 and 2025.

‎He said the persistent delays have hindered key community development initiatives and left residents questioning why their district is being sidelined.

‎Key allegations and statements:

‎The Representative claims that funds designated under the Legislative Support Fund have not been released for district projects in 2024 and 2025.

‎He alleges that the 2025 allocations were diverted to political activity, specifically to finance the removal of the then-speaker, accusing others of manipulating funds for political ends.

‎He criticized fellow lawmakers who supported the removal of former Speaker J. Fonati Kofa.

‎He said he has been informed that he and other Lawmakers may not benefit from the 2025 LSP fund as a consequence for not supporting the removal of Former Speaker Fonata Kofa.

‎Impact on district projects:

‎Subsequently, Rep. Norman said the lack of LSP funds has impeded grassroots development, leaving several initiatives stalled or delayed.

‎He cited a 2024 earmark for the Gungbayah Chiefdom that has not started due to a lack of government funds.

‎Despite the funding bottleneck, he noted that some initiatives are being pursued through alternative funding streams, including a personal salary allocation strategy.

‎Representative Norman’s personal funding approach:

‎He announced that he is using half of his monthly representative salary to fund projects in the district.

‎He disclosed that his current monthly salary is USD 4,000 plus LD 300,000,00 along with a gasoline allowance coupons value at USD 1,500.00.

‎Upcoming or ongoing initiatives:

‎A Mobile Clinic launch is scheduled for September 23, 2025, in Gokala town, Gungbayah district. He has already purchased an ambulance and two motorcycles, and a provision of about USD 20,000 in medicines for the Mobile Clinic outreach.

‎Completed or ongoing infrastructure and social projects include:

‎ 1) Small Henry Town Hall (completed)

‎ 2) Lowoma Town Hall (completed)

‎ 3) Point Point Field School (completed)

‎ 4) Jungle James Market Building (completed) with a LD 500,000 business support provision for market vendors

‎ 5) Ambulance procurement and two motorcycles to support the Mobile Clinic rollout

‎ 6) Distribution of 200 bundles of zinc, 100 bags of cement, and zinc nails

‎ 7) Tawalata School construction at roof level

‎ 8) Bondi Community Market project near completion in Bopolu City.

‎ 9) Internet-friendly Youth Center under construction in Bopolu City

‎ 10) A two-story school building construction project in Bopolu City designed to house an affordable daytime daycare and a free vocational school in the afternoon and evening

‎Context and outlook:

‎Representative Norman has emphasized that the absence of Legislative Support Project funds is underming district’s ability to deliver promised services and infrastructure.

‎He called on the government to release the funds promptly, insisting that residents deserve the benefits of the Legislative Support Fund regardless of partisan politics.

Legislative Updates - Representative Zinnah Norman of Gbarpolu County Electoral District #1 discloses that the government has not released the Legislative Support Funds for 2024 and 2025 to his district.

He reports to his constituents that the government used the 2025 allocation for the removal of former Speaker Fonata Kafa.

He emphasizes that the denial of Legislative Support Project Funds is the primary reason his district has not received the funds to date.

He explains that, in the absence of these funds, he is actively working in the district by lobbying and by allocating half of his monthly salary to district projects.

He notes that his monthly compensation includes USD 4,000 plus LD 300,000, plus a gasoline allowance of USD 1,500, which he uses to support community development in the district.

He made these disclosures on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, edition of The Daily Talk on the Voice of Gbarpolu Radio / TV.

CBL Reassures Public: Liberian Dollar Supply Stable, Currency Strength Shows Effective Policy

The Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) has assured the public and financial stakeholders that there is no shortage of Liberian dollars (LRD) in the financial system.

According to the Bank, commercial banks currently have adequate LRD liquidity to meet all payment demands, including government salaries, private transactions, and settlements.

In a statement released Tuesday, September 9, 2025, the CBL addressed recent concerns over reported shortages of the Liberian dollar, calling them inaccurate and misleading.

The CBL noted that as of September 3, 2025, commercial banks held L$1.65 billion in vault cash, with the Central Bank maintaining robust reserves to support the system if needed. Additionally, banks’ excess reserves have nearly doubled to L$2.02 billion compared to the same period last year, signaling strong liquidity in the system.

The CBL clarified that rumors of cash scarcity stem from speculation, hoarding, and misinformation not from actual financial conditions. Liberia’s LRD liquidity remains stable and resilient.

Meanwhile, the Liberian dollar has seen a significant appreciation against the U.S. dollar. On September 8, 2025, the exchange rate stood at L$180.00 to US$1.00 (buying), up from L$201.08 just a week earlier a 10.5% increase in value. A CBL market survey on September 9 confirmed the trend, showing rates of L$182.94 (buying) and L$184.94 (selling) per U.S. dollar.

The currency strength is attributed to several factors which includes:
Tight monetary policy since April 2025, with a 17.25% policy rate, Sterilization of over L$13 billion to stabilize the foreign exchange market, Strong remittance inflows totaling US$425.9 million in the first half of 2025, Expanding economic activity outside Monrovia due to improved road connectivity

Inflation has also dropped significantly from 13.1% in February to 7.4% in July with further declines projected. Structural reforms, such as improved road access, expanded energy supply, and higher agricultural productivity, are helping reduce production and transportation costs.

Other contributing factors to growing confidence include reduced fiscal deficits and the use of the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS) to facilitate regional trade.

CBL Executive Governor Henry F. Saamoi reiterated the Bank’s strong commitment to maintaining financial and monetary stability:

“There is no shortage of Liberian dollars in the financial system. The recent appreciation of the currency reflects sound policy measures, structural improvements, and improving economic fundamentals.”

He urged the public to avoid panic-driven behavior or hoarding, which can cause unnecessary pressure on the market. The Central Bank will continue monitoring the foreign exchange market and providing regular updates.

The CBL reaffirmed its dedication to sustaining macroeconomic stability, ensuring sufficient liquidity, and reinforcing confidence in the Liberian dollar
