Apoyando Costa Rica | Supporting Costa Rica💫

October 2025 marks the beginning of something truly beautiful. The Tico Be Like community is coming together to give back to the locals in Costa Rica and support the incredible ACCAI Organization in Brasilito, Guanacaste so they can continue their life-changing mission.

For at least one year, we are committed to sponsoring their "Little Bees" program — an English program for children from Pre-K to 6th grade, held every Saturday in Brasilito from 12pm to 3:45pm 🐝🐝📚

I would be truly grateful if you could join us on this journey and offer your support through a financial contribution. No matter the amount, your generosity would mean the world to us. While we don’t have all the funds we need just yet, I have no doubt that, together as a community, we will raise more than enough to make this initiative a success.

Please reach out to me if you'd like to help. Again, your generosity means the world. Muchas Gracias in advance, and pura vida❣️

Life is a swing❣️

Middle of the day. Middle of the week. Middle of the month✨

I've been soaking in every moment of this green season lately. October, the rainiest month of the year in Costa Rica, has felt especially magical. Picture this: bright, sunny mornings, followed by afternoon showers, watching the storms pass, with powerful thunder and flashes of lightning lighting up the distance. Qué chiva! It’s a feeling that settles deep into the soul🧘‍♀️

October always makes me think about one of my favorite hobbies: gardening. The humidity we’re blessed with right now creates the perfect environment to nurture seeds and watch them grow —especially here in Guanacaste; and that’s exactly how October feels for me: like a seed, planted, beginning to sprout, with so much potential ahead🌱

For the past two years, I've carried a dream —the second reason I came back to Costa Rica early this year. Only a few close friends know what I’m talking about, but soon, all of you will know and have the chance to be part of it; and honestly, I can’t wait for that to happen too🙌

But as I sit and write a few sentences at a time (over the past two weeks), tears of joy often come before words, for many reasons, but mostly because the seed of this vision has germinated, it’s sprouted, and now, I know it will only continue to grow and God only knows where it’ll go from here💫

For two years, I’ve patiently waited for this important project to become a reality, and just like gardening, waiting felt like forever sometimes, but I always knew it will eventually happen, I knew it was gonna happen at the right time🤍

Even though I’m still celebrating this privately for now, I feel incredibly blessed to have close friends who always lift me up and support every idea I have; and of course, I’m deeply grateful for the Tico Be Like community —not just for being able to share this Tico Be Like journey with you, but because I know that soon, you’ll be celebrating alongside me and more importantly, becoming a part of this too🙏

Please don't mind me taking my time —it's 'Tico time' for this one, for sure☺️ so maybe 'mañana'😜

Pura Vida🙃

Happy International Coffee Day☕🇨🇷

Coming from a family of coffee producers, today holds a special place in my heart. My grandfather 'Memo' passed down generations of knowledge to my dad, who still grows his coffee today, teaching both of us the value of honoring the land and the hard work behind every bean.

In Costa Rica, between 3-4 pm, it's tradition to gather for a cup of coffee and some small talk with family and friends —a moment to pause, connect, and appreciate the simple joys of life. So, take a moment today to appreciate not just the flavor, but the journey of your cup.

Support local farmers and seek out organic, high-altitude, shade-grown coffee from family-owned farms when looking for the best coffee. It’s better for the planet, tastes better, and helps preserve a way of life that’s been nurtured for generations.

When Costa Rica goes quiet, the storms get louder⛈️⚡

It's common to hear about businesses closing for the month of October, especially in tourist towns. It’s a little break for maintenance work and staff vacation time before the high season kicks in.

October marks the slowest month for tourism in Costa Rica, as it is also the rainiest month of the year. Some businesses close for just a short time, while others never reopen. I’ve seen this happen time and again over the past decade while living and working in Tamarindo and surrounding towns, but it’s also pretty common across the country.

One such business is Zaguan Café —they’ve just announced they’ll be closed starting October 1st. I’ll definitely miss this cute café, but I’m hoping they’ll be back soon🙏☕✨️Hasta pronto💞

What time is it, my sweetheart?🌅🥰

Golden hour always reminds me of this song, one of my favorites to learn and practice Spanish (and a few sentences of French lol)

If you’ve taken lessons with me, you definitely know this one! Music is one of my favorite ways to learn languages, and I truly believe music is a language all on its own🎶

✨Weekly Spanish Tip✨

One of the easiest ways to avoid an awkward situation in Spanish: 'me gusta' vs. 'me gustas' vs. 'me gustas tú':
It’s a small mix-up, but it can lead to some blush-worthy moments☺️
* 'Me gusta' = I like
* 'Me gustas' | 'Me gustas tú' = I like you (in a romantic way)

So... make sure you know the difference😉

💡Reminder:
I have weekly small-group online Spanish lessons every Monday (perfect for beginners!), plus a Spanish Reading Club on Tuesdays for extra practice📚 Sign up on Patreon (link in bio )

I've moved once again!

It took me two months after arriving in Costa Rica to find my sweet home —mi dulce hogar💗

After exploring various locations across the country, I finally found the perfect spot for me✨️

I considered many factors during my search: safety, climate, access to healthcare and basic services, proximity to airports, the balance between expat and local communities, and a few more essential details, like proximity to nature and the overall vibe.

I explored places like San Ramón, La Fortuna, Jacó, Manuel Antonio, Uvita, San Isidro de Pérez Zeledón, and Tamarindo (of course), keeping both eyes and mind wide open throughout the process.

Finding the right place is crucial —and it's a deeply personal journey. Costa Rica may be small, but it's incredibly diverse! Taking your time and choosing carefully can truly make a difference in your overall living experience and quality of life.

I've seen many people end up in the wrong place, only to be disappointed and move again after a few months. But this can be avoided!

Scouting trips are a must!
