Nikita Šestak on Balkanrock:

"The mere thought of digging into the source of inspiration for The Cyclist Conspiracy's new record is daunting in itself. As adept carriers of secret knowledge, the Little Brothers do not suffer from the chronic anti-intellectualism of the era, drawing from everything they can get their hands on, be it the forgotten aces of underground cinema of the 20th century, or esoteric writings, for the mere understanding of which one almost needs a doctorate. But the real magic lies in the second - the obsessive, feverish transmutation of everything strange and forgotten into sonic gold, processed with finesse that allows it to adorn just about any deep cut playlist."

"Old toms, fresh blood, trumpeters, Vedas and secret suppers - what else is needed for a balanced musical diet? Unencumbered by musical revolutions, The Cyclist Conspiracy have shown with this diverse collection that they can blend genres on many levels, regardless of whether the target group is an audiophile-dustman, ready to devote hours to researching references and allusions, or an average listener, who is looking for nothing more than a fluid world music picture book, without commercial compromises and with a strong psychedelic subtext. The funnest instrumental album in the last few years, which will age like a fine wine with time."

'Back to Hermetics and Martial Arts Vol. 1' by The Cyclist Conspiracy is out on Subsound Records.

Thanks to Cveće Zla i Naopakog for this review of Szolidaritás Orchestra.

"This is a very classic record of avant-garde jazz [...], all in cavernous echoes, ritualistic emanations, made more like a ritual performed by people who use their instruments to summon demons and make them do an obscene dance [...]. Addāt Fōyya legitimately identifies itself as a jazz album for a good part of the time. Wild, brutalistically cut from rough stone, but jazz."

"Addāt Fōyya" by Deni Omeragić + Ninoslav Spirovski SZOLIDARITÁS ORCHESTRA is out on PMGJazz and Inverted Spectrum Records.

Thank you Avant Music News!

“It’s a solid free-jazz effort, a reminder that we could all listen to more music from Macedonia–and budget some time for a refresher on the Budapest scene, too.”

The Szolidaritás Orchestra is the latest project of Deni Omeragić and Ninoslav Spirovski, two-thirds of the Macedonian punk-jazz outfit Svetlost. Svetlost’s 2024 release, Everything Was as I…

RELEASE ALERT: PMGJazz and Inverted Spectrum Records are delighted to announce their second collaborative release, Addāt Fōyya by Deni Omeragić + Ninoslav Spirovski SZOLIDARITÁS ORCHESTRA. Recorded in Budapest in March 2025, the album features a first time collaboration between seven prominent musicians based in Macedonia and Hungary.

File under: Macedonian jazz; Hungarian jazz; free jazz; dark jazz; avantgarde jazz

Ninoslav Spirovski [clarinet / tenor saxophone]
David Karla [bass clarinet / alto saxophone]
Viktor Kapusi [tenor saxophone]
Christopher Cox [trombone]
Attila Gyárfás [drums]
Péter Ajtai [contrabass]
Deni Omeragić [contrabass / electronics]

The composers' travel between Skopje and Budapest was supported by a sustainable mobility grant by Culture Moves Europe.

"Following the 2024 release of 'Everything Was as It Had Been a Minute Ago', a masterpiece of dark avantgarde jazz by the Macedonian trio Svetlost, the partnership between PMGJazz and Inverted Spectrum Records continues with Addāt Fōyya by Deni Omeragić + Ninoslav Spirovski SZOLIDARITÁS ORCHESTRA, the fruit of a recent attempt at underpinning new collaborations within the regional free jazz and improvisational music scenes. Is Hungary and Macedonia even considered to belong to the same region? We all know that regions are not merely georgraphical, but political and cultural entities, defined by alliances and shared backgrounds, and SZOLIDARITÁS ORCHESTRA is a performative act, an act of declaration of such a region by laying the groundwork for future pacts and common musical references. By this declaration, the project invites us to see geographical proximity rather than pre-established cultural or industrial connections as a potential source of new artistic partnerships; and that physical proximity matters more and more each day on a planet where reckless globalization has failed sustainability."

"Recorded in Budapest on The Ides of March, 2025, in the basement of a cafe at the foot of Erzsébet Bridge, the album features modal compositions by Omeragić and Spirovski, two central figures from the alternative jazz cadres of Macedonia. The solemn, sombre and majestic tones of these musical paintings are familiar to us from Svetlost and Odron Ritual Orchestra, ensembles spearheaded by these two long-time collaborators. But instead of the usual participants of their orchestras, this time the compositions are embellished by five of the most prominent characters from the Budapest scene: Péter Ajtai, Christopher Robin Cox, Attila Gyárfás, Viktor Kapusi, and David Karla, all of whom are known from countless local formations and international collaborations. The performance is masterfully recorded by Dávid Tamás Pap, whose signiture can be found in many layers of the Hungarian alternative music realm. Addāt Fōyya marks a new phase for the Skopje-based PMGJazz in emerging as an international institution, and establishes Inverted Spectrum Records further as a regional interventionist label, or, as recently described by Christopher Cox, "the conductor of the underground jazz railway between Budapest and the Balkans".

The Cyclist Conspiracy, arguably the most groundbreaking psychedelic folk rock act from the ex-Yugoslav region, has just released their second full-length album ‘Back to Hermetics and Martial Arts Vol. 1’ on the Rome-based avantgarde heavy music label Subsound Records, available on vinyl and digital. They will be playing three shows this month presenting their new material, brought to you by the Inverted Spectrum Records Regional Booking Department.

21.11.2025: BANJA LUKA - DKC Incel
22.11.2025: ZADAR - Nigdjezemska
23.11.2025: ČAKOVEC - Prostor

“Back to Hermetics and Martial Arts Vol. 1” is an epic adventure through the invisible worlds of Neoplatonic cinema. From mockumentaries about the lost books of occult correspondences, through psychedelic surf noir chambers with ritual suppers, and giallo screams of the world squished by the chthonic grasp, to the original footage of the victorious Belgrade-Dharamsala bicycle marathon of 1931, Morriconesque spaghetti western theophanies, and the saving grace of the Heart pierced by Seven Swords, the album delivers nine movie themes that combine various musical elements into a unique work of cinematic alchemy.”

“a breathtaking crossover of Balkan folk, stoner rock and psychedelic music”
- Betreutes Proggen

“this is an odyssey of ideas all within a broad and tangible psych aura.”
- ninehertz

“The Cyclist Conspiracy invite their audience to a sphere far away from time, space, or meaning. Here, where concepts melt and ideas are being born, transformation is omnipresent. From here on, Back To Hermetics And Martial Arts Vol. 1 lets the listeners re-discover their world and re-arrange common concepts and truths. You can indeed compare this album to a successful L*D trip.”
