Heritage interpretation for architects and landscape architects is the newest publication of Interpret Europe.
Planning briefs for architects and landscape architects often call for a response to the unique qualities of the site in question. Heritage sites, in particular, require an informed and imaginative approach to their subject material and a high-quality visitor experience. But how should a place be interpreted, and by whom? And what makes up a high-quality visitor experience?
With its focus on:
• offering paths to deeper meaning
• turning phenomena into experiences
• provoking resonance and participation
• fostering stewardship for all heritage,
Heritage interpretation can provide architects with a powerful tool for engaging with such projects. Interpret Europe’s architecture group has created this brochure to explain the principles of heritage interpretation as they might apply to architecture and landscape. We hope it will help us expand our understanding of interpretation through the built environment and increase our membership in this sector.
