Sooner or later, every sound engineer profiles to work in a certain musical genre(s).

However, regardless of genre orientation, any professional sound engineer should be able to work with artists and records that come from a different musical spectrum.

On the basis of their knowledge and professional experience, engineers occasionally like to be challenged to work in these types of sessions.

My creative challenge within this topic came when Alex (Macabre Omen) asked me to dust off the old master tapes of Corvus Neblus, his, at the time, secret dungeon synth project from the 90s.

Considering the time distance, that wasn't an entirely easy task, but in the end we successfully managed to (re)master "Strahd's Possession", which was first released as a 12" vinyl in a purple and green edition for Livor Mortis, and then two years later on tape by Out Of Season.

"Strahd's Possession" was mastered/re-mastered for vinyl & tape by Vladimir Uzelac and Wormhole Sound Production.

Very often, a sound engineer is faced with requests to copy and simulate the sounds from other albums and records, a challenge that everyone dealing with this kind of work have to go through.

Depending on expertise and experience, some will have less or more success in meeting such requests and that's quite common for the music business.

No secret that many sound engineers get special inspiration when working with clients who don't have ready-made instructions on how to handle their recordings, but rather leave it up to the engineer to decide for himself.

In such situations, based on the personal criteria, taste and competence, the engineer finally has the opportunity to express his own production style and show you the more artistic side of music production.

To my professional pleasure, I got an opportunity just like this to work on a full-length album by Mexican Full Öf Hate.
From the very beginning, the band gave me complete creative freedom, and the results of shaping their sound are right here.

For every sound engineer, working with bands that are not only talented composers, but are also ready to invest in their recording's quality is something they naturally gravitate to, and as a rule, it always brings great results for both parties.

The basis of music forms around melody and performance, as key, but not sufficient, elements shaping a quality composition. What you need is exactly what sound engineers are trained to help you with, a technically high-quality recording and the skilled signal processing finally preparing the songs for release.

Primal Cult were aware and focused on all these elements from the very beginning when we started working on their album "Perennial Fire" a few years ago. They come from Greece 🇬🇷respecting the 90's tradition, not blindly enough to nurture its own sound and claim the place among the new wave of the Hellenic black metal scene.

Mixing your own record, from a professional standpoint, is always a challenge in itself.

The possibility of ending up with an overmixed sound is quite unpleasant and similar to the situation where you are exposed to a completely unmixed recording in case it was not a creative decision of the artist or producer. Therefore, the objective perspective of the mix engineer is one of the desirable assumptions of a successful approach to sound mixing.

However, unfortunately for artists and producers, we are not always able to fully control all the circumstances that influence and shape our sound, and such was the case with Terrorhammer latest album.

From the beginning, we were guided by the idea that we aim for a solid, but not clean, sound that would clearly separate all the instruments in the mix, but still retaining the imperfect impression of a band playing live and raw from the studio room.
The idea of combining pure and raw into one sound image, for the realization of which, with reasons already presented, we spent more time than usual to finish up the mix is an idea that, judging by the reactions when Osmose Productions put out "Gateways to Hades" two years ago, successfully implemented to our hellish pleasure.

Less often does WHSP get the chance to work with local Serbian bands, which makes it all the more inspiring to do so with a band that works dedicated on it's music and is willing to invest in the album's sound quality.
