Back in Curaçao after an unforgettable Caribbean cruise aboard the Renaissance 🌊✨

Sailing into Anna Bay for the first time after eight islands was something special. The colorful waterfront of Punda and Otrobanda, connected by the iconic Queen Emma Bridge, create one of the most picturesque cruise arrivals in the Caribbean.

Eight islands later… and this view was the perfect welcome home. 💙⚓

Insiring evening at Gallery 9’s photo art exhibition!
The photography‑based works by José Malin, Berber van Beek, and Don Marco were captivating, diverse, and genuinely refreshing. The additional pieces by Giomar Loaiza and Brit van der Hulst added even more depth to the experience.

What stood out just as much as the art was the atmosphere: warm, inspiring, and full of creative community energy. Attendees naturally connected on the round square in front of the building, interacting, and sharing impressions. Curaçao’s creative pulse is strong.

Bright Club is an inspiring youth initiative based in Willemstad, Curaçao, founded by Chandel Welvaart. It offers teenagers a creative, hands-on environment where they can explore new technologies, design, programming, robotics, digital media and innovation. The focus is on learning by doing, preparing young people for the future in a practical and motivating way.

At Bright Club, students work in small groups on real projects, collaborating, experimenting and problem-solving together. We visited their “Open Dag”, where families could see the space, meet the team and experience what the students create. It’s a place that truly sparks curiosity, confidence and creativity in teenagers.

Playa Santa Cruz is one of Curaçao’s quieter, less‑discovered beaches, perfect for relaxed family BBQs with plenty of natural shade. Its wide shoreline means there’s always space to unwind, and the bay’s picturesque backdrop makes every selfie look effortless. The atmosphere stays calm even on weekends, giving it that easygoing, local feel. As the day ends, it becomes one of the island’s most beautiful spots to watch the sun melt into the sea.

✨ Exhibition ✨
Pegasaya Su Tela by Alejandra Ciuntje
(Curaçao, b.1995)

Her first solo exhibition explores Caribbean bodies, memory, and transformation—rooted in Édouard Glissant’s call to “consent not to be a single being.” Named Pegasaya by her grandmother, Ciuntje weaves somatic states, silence, and intuition into a living archive of collective experience.

Pegasaya Su Tela invites us into a sacred descent, motion, taboo, and connection.

The exhibition Despensa i Pordon, meaning “apologies and forgiveness” in Papiamentu, brought together 19 artists. Each artist reflected on the Dutch state’s apology for slavery in the Caribbean and its meaning today.

Their visual works were powerful, diving into deep emotions rooted in our past, present, and future. The pieces captured pain, resilience, and hope, offering a path toward healing and dialogue. Audiences were moved by the way the artworks touched subconscious layers of collective memory.

This unique event was organized by the Curaçao Art Foundation in collaboration with the Curaçao Museum.
The project was created and curated by Josée Thissen-Rojer and Sinuhe Oomen. Together, they shaped a space for reflection, forgiveness, and moving forward as a community.
