Since July 2025, GMC Talent has been partnering with Bonaire (Water- en Energiebedrijf Bonaire N.V.), leading a full-scale project focused on training, career development, and organizational growth.
Taking on such a major project so early in my business career was both a 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙖 𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙡𝙚𝙜𝙚, 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙥𝙪𝙨𝙝𝙚𝙙 𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙙𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡 𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙩.

Over the past months, I’ve worked side by side with the incredible team at WEB to design and implement systems that truly empower their employees, from building structured development frameworks to helping employees map out their personal and professional growth paths.

From an island of just 156,000 people, we became the smallest nation to ever qualify for the World Cup.

Now last school year, I had the opportunity to collaborate with IOBA on the “𝙄𝙊𝘽𝘼 𝙂𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙜𝙚” project, which truly brought the classroom to life.

For three months, students from the University of Curaçao met guest lecturers who shared real-life stories, challenges, and lessons from their careers.

The goal? 𝙏𝙤 𝙗𝙧𝙞𝙙𝙜𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙜𝙖𝙥 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙛𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡, 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙬𝙤 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙙𝙞𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙩.

Many of our students already work while studying, but through this project, they learned how to approach every experience as a stepping stone.

Reading this testimonial reminded me why I love what I do.

When we talk about preparing the 𝙣𝙚𝙭𝙩 𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙘𝙚, we often focus on technical knowledge, the theories, the frameworks, the grades.

𝘽𝙪𝙩 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣 𝙗𝙚𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙛𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡?
As part of my work at the University of Curaçao, I teach the Personal & Professional Development (PPD) course to students in the International Hospitality and Tourism Management program, a class designed to help them bridge that gap between who they are and who they’re becoming.

We explore themes like 𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙛-𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨, 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙥 𝙨𝙠𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙣’𝙩 𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙤𝙣 𝙖 𝙙𝙞𝙥𝙡𝙤𝙢𝙖 but define how far you’ll go in your career.

One of my students recently shared something that truly touched me:

“I truly enjoy the topics in the PPD course, and I see it as a great opportunity to work on different aspects of myself to continue developing personally. I believe that if I were to transfer to another school, I would miss out on the leadership and soft skills that Miss Gilly-Ann is actively helping us develop. That’s one of the reasons I’ve decided to stay at UoC, because I’m gaining much more than just academic knowledge; I’m also being prepared for the future as a professional.”

Moments like this remind me why teaching goes far beyond the classroom, it’s about shaping confidence, mindset, and purpose.

As a mentor and lecturer at the University of Curaçao, I have the privilege of guiding students in the International Hospitality and Tourism Management program, helping them understand that success in the workplace isn’t just about what you know, but how you show up.

Soft skills like communication, adaptability, and teamwork aren’t “extras”, they’re what set professionals apart. And every time I see a student grow in confidence, curiosity, and self-awareness, I’m reminded why I do what I do.

In an industry where qualified talent is often scarce, investing in young professionals isn’t just valuable, it’s essential for Curaçao’s future workforce.
