Andrew “Andy” Kirchner was born in Curaçao in 1976. He was raised with the Caribbean cultural diversity in Curaçao and the Netherlands. After a life changing scuba diving accident in 2012 he remained paralyzed from the waist down. He quickly realized that if he would want to walk again one day, he had to see what he still had and not what he had lost. In his search to find a new purpose for his li

fe, he found a new, stronger and visionary version of himself. Andy took his time rehabilitating as a time to reflect, and study, to become a better version of himself. Physically, mentally and spiritually he developed himself to one day be able to be of service to others. The set goal brought him on an unexpected journey. Three years later, in 2015, his visualized business idea 2nd Life Curaçao, creating functional recycled art, won him the JCI IOBA Aspiring Creative Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. With his lessons learned during the most challenging period of his life, Andy Kirchner, as The Recycled Pirate | Life Awareness & Innovations, started recycling lives. He coaches, gives seminars and motivational speeches at schools, NGO's and corporate events about his own life and personal developed Life Awareness tools on how to live more aware in this digital era and become a better version of you. Since 2019 Andy joined the supervisory board of the SGR-GROUP, the same foundation where he rehabilitated and promised to return to service his community. With his Pirate Wisdom Quotes, he reaches an even broader community, considered as a social coaching program. Since 2019 The Recycled Pirate offers these as ethical merchandise on postcards, t-shirts and mugs. Visit www.therecycledpirate.com for more background information. In a world full of distractions, focus is a superpower.

My "secret" ingredient working across different settings has been to look past the beautiful stories or high numbers. I make a deliberate effort to focus entirely on the long-term impact to get the absolute most out of an opportunity.

Although it’s not always easy, when you take control of your focus and set your priorities, you gain the power to live with more intention.

Whether you are navigating change in your personal life or managing your business, the formula doesn't change.
Stop chasing the noise. Make a choice. Stick to it.

Making it actionable. Keeping it actual.

Engagement Question:
What is one "shiny promise" or distraction you had to say no to, to keep your focus locked on your long-term vision? Let's talk about it below. 👇

True leadership isn't about control; it's about capacity

I wish I had role models growing up that showed me respect instead of fear.
Fear forces people to fall in line, but respect empowers them to stand up and lead beside you.

In my work with and , I see too many business owners trying to be the sole captain of the ship. They confuse being a "boss" with doing everything themselves. But if your business falls apart the moment you step away, you haven't built an organization—you've built a prison.

To navigate sustainable development and build a strong future for Curaçao, our businesses need a stronger foundation. This requires a shift from ego to empathy, and from disruption to enhancement. A leader who is surrounded by others willing to lead doesn't lose power; they multiply their Return on Impact.

Let's talk about leadership in the comments. What is your favorite way to empower your team members? 👇

This is what actionable collaboration looks like in practice. 🇨🇼🤝

It’s been over a year since OBNA Bank N.V. joined Club17 Curaçao, and they have consistently proven what it means to be a driving force in our island’s sustainability movement.

At The Recycled Pirate | Life Awareness & Innovations, we don’t just talk about partnerships, we facilitate them. We brought these two impactful organizations together and are continuing to support both organizations in amplifying their message through understandable, community-centered action.

The first big step? The OBNA Walk & Run 2026 on May 24th.

💧 Walk Responsible: A Healthier, Cleaner Curaçao starts with YOU!
As we prepare for the OBNA Walk & Run 2026 on May 24th, we are committed to making a positive impact that goes beyond the finish line. In partnership with Club17 Curaçao, we are lacing up for a more sustainable future.

Here is how you can contribute:
Bring Your Own Reusable Bottle: To reduce plastic waste on our beautiful island, we encourage everyone to bring their own refillable water bottle.

Hydrate Responsibly: Use the designated refilling stations along the 5K and 10K routes to stay energized.

Tene Kòrsou Limpi: Let's keep our routes clean and show respect for our environment, because a healthy community is the backbone of a healthy business.

By choosing to reduce plastic, you are helping us meet SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.

Let's make the Blue Wave a green one too! 🌊🌿

"Andy, what exactly is it that you do?"

I get the question a lot and I often answer:
"I work in Communication, Marketing, Digitalization, Governance, and Human Development." It looks like a lot because it IS a lot.

But here’s the "Why": You can't navigate sustainability if you don't understand the ecosystem. I am a Generalist by necessity and a Social Impact Specialist by choice.

I’ve realized that being a specialist in impact requires being a generalist in everything that drives it. If you want to change the system, you have to understand the parts:

1. The Structure: Governance & NGOs
2. The Engine: Small Business & Digitalization
3. The Connection: Communication & Marketing
4. The Heart: Human Development & Emotional Intelligence

If you’re confused about my "lane," it’s because social impact isn't one lane, it’s the whole road. Everything I do is intentional. I aim for high efficiency in these specialties so I can be more effective at the one thing that matters:
Helping people grow so they can change their world.

We help people and organizations make their impact actionable. 🎯

We only have one island. One planet. This is a team effort.

If you are not taking the future into consideration, you're taking from it. We don't just aim for the ordinary; We bridge the gap between "knowing" and "doing."

If you need help making your organization more sustainable, contact me. I'm only a message away.

On Thursday, April 23rd, I attended the Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB) Product Department stakeholders breakfast. It was an insightful session where Andre Rojer and team presented their recent achievements and ambitious goals for the island’s future.

The biggest takeaway for me? Collaboration is the only way to achieve lasting impact.

As Curaçao continues to grow, it is more important than ever to uphold higher standards and improve the "product" we offer the world. As a , I fully support the CTB Product Department and all stakeholders in their mission to better the experience.

The Recycled Pirate | Life Awareness & Innovations is currently moving the needle through several key initiatives:
• The Club17 Curaçao Sustainability Map
• The Curaçao Taxi Trip List
• The Apartment Owner's Guide to Sustainable Hospitality
• The CTB Quality Assurance Program

Our goal is clear: Reduce costs, boost efficiency, and do it in a sustainable way that is understandable, accessible, and most importantly, upheld by everyone involved.

Digitalization with purpose. Productivity with impact. Sustainability with heart.
