For one of the most breathtaking panoramic views of Barcelona, make your way to the El Carmel area, just under a kilometre east of Park Güell, and climb up Turó de la Rovira hill to reach the famous Bunkers del Carmel viewpoint. 🌇
At the top, among the rocky terrain and wild grasses, stand the remains of old concrete platforms once used as anti-aircraft defenses during the Spanish Civil War. In later years, the site became a shanty settlement that lasted until the early 1990s.
Today, it’s a popular place where locals, students, and travelers gather—especially to watch the sunset over the city. 👥👥
You can easily combine your visit with Park Güell, as the bunkers are only about a 15-minute walk from the park. Bus 24 (Pl. Catalunya / El Carmel) conveniently connects both spots, making it a great option for reaching Park Güell or heading straight to the viewpoint. 🚌
After sunset, expect local police to arrive and ask everyone to leave the area for safety reasons, as the hill isn’t monitored at night. 👮
To return to the city center, simply take bus 24 back toward Plaça Catalunya—you can pay directly on board using your card or mobile phone.
