Saxon
Saxon is a beautiful American Bulldog who is approximately 5-6 years old. He came into our lives at Pound Dog Rescue Cyprus in June 2022; when he was found wandering as a stray in Episkopi village. He is a big boy, calm and affectionate who manages to make everyone who meets him, fall in love with him.
He arrived with us and did his 15 days of waiting…..to see if anyone would claim him, but nobody did….and he become ours. We named him Saxon. We had him vet checked to sadly find out he was suffering from leishmaniasis. He underwent intensive treatment followed with a regular course of medication, and he beat it! Saxon is now in remission and takes a weeks course of medication every month, as a preventative measure.
Saxon is clever and gentle. He loves to be near you and enjoys your company. He can live in a home as he is house trained. He understands all basic commands and has no food aggression. If treats are being given out then he waits his turn and never takes from the other dogs, or pushes to the front of the queue! He enjoys his walks and is happy going out in the car too! We muzzled trained him so that he can be walked in busier areas without any problems. He loves a bath and a brush and if you are sat down he will come and sit with you, quietly….just to feel you near him. He can be stubborn!….if you are out walking and he doesn’t want to go back then he will lay down, in an attempt to persuade you to go another way and keep him out of the pound longer….but this can be sorted with a quick hug or a pull on the lead…..but you can’t blame him for trying. We give him so much love and security but a pound is not a home.
Saxon is not a friend of cats and would be best in a home as an only dog.
Our beautiful boy is struggling being in the pound….it is taking its toll on him. He takes time to make friends with other dogs and then has to watch them leave, as they get homes and he doesn’t. Saxon is arguably one of our most popular dogs we have had at PDRC…..he has a huge fan base who follow him and support him with love, praise, gifts and good wishes. We need to find him his home as he deserves it, it’s his turn.
Due to a change in the law for banned dog breeds in the U.K. means that Saxon can no longer be rehomed there. We are therefore trying our hardest to find his home here in Cyprus. We need him to be noticed and for people to see what we see. Saxon has survived being abandoned and overcome leishmaniasis…..he deserves his happy ending.
So please consider Saxon being a part of your family. Please take some time out to come and meet him. You won’t be sorry.
