Dear readers,
Blue growth seems to progress with very important projects all over the island. Particularly the pleasure boats sector, the dock sites and the large-scale projects along the coasts of Cyprus give us a pretext for the future development that we will see in our island.
Once inadequate facilities for the hospitality and maintenance of large pleasure boats have been modified and modernized, and are ready to accommodate almost all sizes of boats for maintenance.
The very friendly and advantageous Cypriot flag is also a pole of attraction for private boats. Whereas, with the operation of Limassol Marina and the forthcoming construction of other marinas (Ayia Napa-Larnaka-Paphos) it is estimated that Cyprus will have all the advantages to attract a significant part of marine tourism all year round.
Of course, the local development in our country is part of the global development in the shipping industry and especially in yachts. In all boat shows in Europe and the rest of the world, there is a serious recovery and increase in both sales and interest. Particularly encouraging is the fact that, the interest of consumers comes from young people.
Thus, as well as the shipyards driven by increased demand and through a nice competition, they present increasingly better products and services and invest considerable amounts and time in meeting the needs of their customers.
The increase in Mega yachts, which for the first time shows enough vessels over 100 feet to make their appearance in the Eastern Mediterranean, is also important.
Naturally, in every positive aspect, there is also the provocative attitude of our neighbours on issues of exclusive economic zone and instability in the Middle East and especially in Syria.
Cyprus, however, as a European station can offer stability, security and take advantage of perhaps a significant movement of yachts from the Middle East to Europe.
Let us hope that the tension in the Middle East will soon be reduced and a political stability will come about, which will also contribute to a broader development of the Eastern Mediterranean.
