Kathy was ready to sleep in her car after 12 hours—until a passing neighbor quietly took the wheel and got her home.
She finished her shift at 1:10 a.m.
Too tired to drive. The break room was full.
So she sat in her car, engine running, heat on.
She closed her eyes for a moment.
She didn’t mean to fall asleep.
Derek, her neighbor and hospital security guard, spotted the headlights still on.
He walked over, saw her asleep in the driver’s seat.
The door wasn’t locked.
He opened it slowly, took the keys from her hand without waking her.
Shifted her to the passenger seat.
Then drove her home in her own car.
She woke up under a blanket on her couch.
Next to it, a note:
“Your car’s outside. You’re home. Rest easy.”
