Once an open-pit copper and pyrite mine, the Kapedes Mine Lake was created when the abandoned excavation gradually filled with rainwater and groundwater. Today, its colour shifts between deep blue, turquoise, and reddish hues depending on minerals, water chemistry, and the light. A fascinating reminder of Cyprus’ rich mining history—and one of its most unique landscapes.
