📢We are delighted to announce that another volume in the Studies in Mediterranean Archaeology - SIMA series is on its way to publication
👉 Cathy Carigiet (2025). Prehistoric Bronze Age Cypriot Flasks: A Study of Regionalism and Individual Variation (SIMA PB 195).

This richly illustrated study focuses on ceramic flasks from Early and Middle Bronze Age Cyprus, small vessels often found in domestic and, especially, funerary contexts. Made from fine fabrics and decorated with incised geometric patterns, these flasks likely held precious liquids such as oils, perfumes, or medicinal substances for ceremonial use.

With a catalogue of 560 known examples, the volume offers an in-depth analysis of form, fabric, and decoration, exploring regional patterns, workshop practices, and even the hand of individual potters.

📚 Another important contribution to Cypriot archaeology and prehistoric ceramic studies!

📢📢 Studies in Mediterranean Archaeology - SIMA is pleased to announce that the volume by Giorgos Bourogiannis entitled The Sanctuary of Ayia Irini Reconsidered. A Quest for Gods and Territories (SIMA 158) has been printed and is now available with an Abstract and List of contents on the SIMA website!
🙌 The volume re-examines the sanctuary of Ayia Irini, one of the most exceptional archaeological discoveries made by the 1927–1931 Swedish Cyprus Expedition, known for its corpus of terracotta votive sculpture! This new publication reconsiders the special symbolism, ideological connotations and political affiliation of Ayia Irini during the Archaic period, and attempts a more precise definition of the deity worshipped at Ayia Irini.

🙌✨ Did you know that the first ever issue of SIMA on Cypriot archaeology was by SIMA’s founder, Paul Åström, on his excavations at Kalopsidha and Ayios Iakovos (SIMA II 1966). It was the first of over 40 volumes which Paul authored, co-authored or edited for SIMA. With contributions from over 12 specialists, it is an early example of a multidisciplinary site report and a testament to Paul’s great generosity and collaborative spirit.
