Verbuňk, a lively dance for men, is an improvised dance with strict rules. However, each dancer creates his own individual choreography
and tries to perform the most difficult steps and figures. As such, it is only danced in the Slovácko region, where there are seven regional types.

👉 Today marks the 20th anniversary of its inscription on the UNESCO list. However, its history dates back several centuries, when it was a symbol of resistance against forced conscription into the army.

🐻‍❄️ Elsa, a female polar bear at Brno Zoo, has undergone specialist dental treatment. After being transported from Bremerhaven, Germany, she was eating little and appeared tired. An X-ray revealed broken teeth and inflammation in her jaw.

👉 The hour-long procedure was performed by a team of experts from the University of Veterinary Sciences Brno and partner clinics. Veterinarians saved both of her canines using a special treatment from inside the tooth. However, the incisor had to be removed. Her recovery is going well, and Elsa is eating heartily again.

🏦🎨 After a year and a half of reconstruction, the Secondary School of Art and Design in Uherské Hradiště has opened its newly refurbished facilities. The new classrooms, studios and workshops — equipped with professional tools and modern technology — will be used by students of the fashion modelling and design programme.

➡️ With the addition of a new lift, the school is now fully barrier-free. The former ground-floor school gallery will also be open to the public, serving as a venue for exhibitions, lectures and art courses.

The project cost approximately 32.5 million CZK. The school is housed in a historic building that was designated a cultural monument in 1994.

The 17th annual Multimedia Day, hosted today by the Faculty of Social Studies at Masaryk University in Brno, focused on how journalists cover war and crisis. The event drew hundreds of visitors, particularly pupils from primary and secondary schools.

➡️ Participants could attend workshops and discussions dedicated to journalists’ safety in the field and to approaches to reporting on armed conflicts.

➡️ A media fair held in the atrium offered opportunities to meet representatives of outlets such as the Czech News Agency, Czech Television’s Brno studio, Brněnský deník Rovnost, and the Brno section of Mladá fronta Dnes.

➡️ This year’s theme marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, while also addressing today’s global conflicts. To accompany the event, the Czech News Agency opened a photography exhibition titled Moments of War in front of the building, where it will remain until the end of the year.

🚌 Brno Public Transport Company will add 37 new articulated buses to its fleet over the next two years.

The SOR NS 18 buses are low-floor, air-conditioned, and meet the Euro 6 emissions standard. They will gradually replace part of the current diesel-powered fleet.

Each vehicle will come equipped with USB ports, a modern passenger information system, and—for the first time—an anti-collision system to detect obstacles and warn the driver.

The cost per bus is nearly CZK 10 million, with the total contract valued at approximately CZK 370 million.

The Museum of Decorative Arts in Brno has been filled with the work of leading Czech designer Liběna Rochová. The retrospective exhibition was prepared by the Moravian Gallery.

➡️ Visitors can view not only around 130 clothing models, dozens of accessories and jewelry, but also sketches, photos, and diaries.

➡️ The exhibition, titled Doteky (Touches), will run until August 29, 2027.

🦙 The group of vicuña llamas at the Zlín Zoo has grown for the first time in thirteen years. A baby was born there at the beginning of October. Visitors can see it in the South American area, below the Jaguar Trek exhibit.

🖌️🎨 A new mural now adorns the transformer station on Slovácká Street in the centre of Břeclav. It depicts Jožka Černý, the Moravian folk singer, whose portrait — rendered through traditional folkloric motifs — was created by artists from the Brno studio Malujeme jinak.

This is not the first mural in the town. Last year, a portrait of poet Jan Skácel appeared on the Na Valtické housing estate, and more are expected to follow next year.

President of the Republic Petr Pavel visited the Faculty of Social Studies at Masaryk University in Brno today. The head of state accepted an invitation to a discussion with students on the occasion of 17 November, which is the Struggle for Freedom and Democracy Day and the International Students’ Day.

The faculty’s lecture hall was fully occupied, with 180 registered students. There was significant interest in the debate; according to the university’s spokesperson Radim Sajbot, the capacity was filled within two seconds of the reservation system opening.

President Pavel’s visit is the first visit of a Czech head of state to Masaryk University in nearly 18 years. The last Czech president to visit was Václav Klaus, in December 2007.

A new pergola is being built at the viewpoint on Husovice Hill in the Brno-North district. It is being built by Tadeáš Staněk, a native of Husovice. The overall renovation of the site is being carried out by Veřejná zeleň města Brna (Brno Public Greenery) – its workers are building sidewalks and modifying the terrain to prevent soil erosion, among other things.

👉 The district will pay approximately CZK 14 million for the construction of the pergola and the revitalization of the surrounding area. The work should be completed by the beginning of December, but the planting of greenery will continue into the spring.

🅿️ The residential parking system went into operation on Tuesday, 18 November, in Brno’s Lesná district, which is designated as Visitor Zone C.

➡️ Restrictions apply on weekdays overnight — from 5 p.m. to 6 a.m. Visitors are entitled to one hour of free parking per day; each additional hour costs 30 CZK.

➡️ Zone C has no physical parking meters. Parking can be paid via SMS, the online parking portal, or the ParkSimple app.
