About the game in the download:
"Echoes from the Frost" is a solo journaling roleplaying game played over 12 turns, representing a year in the frozen wastes, using your imagination, three six-sided die, and a journal.

This immersive journey is designed to be played with the evocative soundtrack created by fragile as glass, an integral part of shaping the game's desolate beauty, quiet hope, and chilling mystery.

Each turn you'll roll three dice: one for Complication, one for Intensity, one for type of Encounter. These rolls provide a unique prompt you interpret and record in your journal, guiding your narrative journey.

You'll manage your character's Legacy Durability and utilize Tools and Mementos - resources that can aid your rolls or be spent for powerful narrative effects, though each use risks their permanent loss.

Away for next few days recording FUTILE MOURNING debut album (and a DOOM (band) cover) at Davos Studio in Výškov.

Here is a clip from our first full band rehearsal 18 months ago, filmed with phone and recorded on Zoom H1 in the middle of the stage at Klub Futra, Orlová, on March 1st 2024. (The riff has changed shape a little over time, but, still love this section of the first video).

There is a monumental vision to this release, which is only partially unfolding and presented to you here. Be prepared for this glorious weaving of black metal based sonics, which adds in atmospheric ambient, post-cinematic and classical moments along the way, as introspective and engrossing stories carve their paths as veins to the whole body.

ATGEIR is Leo Ulfelder, 'an interdisciplinary artist from Los Angeles, California, who is fiercely devoted to creating work that is both intellectually stimulating and spiritually provoking.'

'Hiraeth' follows the narrator's journey through Central Bohemia with their companion Janus Talheim, as they discover the land's old Slavic gods, contract deals with new devils, and mourn personal loss.

Atgeir 'chronicles the artist's world travels, life events, and viewpoints that address the agency of all matter, and holds a conversation between the concept of life and its inevitable path towards entropy. The melancholy writing style draws from the literary work of W.G. Sebald, among others, and has musical foundations in Los Angeles punk and American black metal.'

It gives me great personal pleasure to be able to share Leo's sounds, art and literary visions further into the welcoming ears, eyes and brains who need and will appreciate his work and this release.

We became friends 10 years ago when Gets Worse toured Europe with FISSURE, and our continued chats in future years obsessed over travel, music, language, art and creativity generally.

We teamed up on sharing his solo powerviolence/hardcore project Nihil Unbound on Owlripper in February 2023. I am honoured to share 'Hiraeth' with you now to widen knowledge of his creative journey.

October 24, The Owls play the wonderful Hájovňa in Žilina (Slovakia) with No Vida (Czech) and Lachsfarbe Links (Austria).

October 30, Futile Mourning go to Davos Studio, Vyškov, to record the first album and a Doom cover 'Means To An End (Let's All Be Friends)'.

November 7, Marne play at Sibiř in Brno, with Dno, Alison Walks, Øblast, Marasitic Blues, Underoot

December 11, The Owls play a gallery exhibition opening event in Ostrava (details follow)

December 12, The Owl plays Zvukoprostor2 (sounds noises ambient experimental) in Klub Futra, Orlová, with Teh(A)nu, Martin Šenkypl, Plochy, Nto_morrow.

Chronicles of the Hollow Realms: Volume 1 'The Gate of Thorns' by Archive Dystopia, on Mountain Forest Cabin Dweller

In the twilight age of Varnhollow, beneath blood-red moons and lifeless forests, walks a figure known by the elders and fading stars: Vaelorian the Unbound.

Once a high thaumaturge, Vaelorian was exiled for studying a grimoire scribed by a dying god. His body remains whole, but his soul was fractured, leaving only a tether of will and purpose: to descend into the underrealm beneath the Gate of Thorns, and reclaim what was lost.

For deep beneath stone and spell, in the dreaming root of the world, lies the only voice that still remembers his true name.

You can drift safely with 'The Ache Of Gentle Things' by Hecate and Under The Frost Moon.

Hecate says of this split album: 'A blackgaze / psychedelic synth exploration of the heart wrenching ache that accompanies childhood memories and nostalgia. Half remembered and hazey memories from the depths of innocence, and the painful hurt that can coincide with that loss of innocence.'

I would certainly mention that the combination leans really far into the realms of ambient black metal, and actually more aligned with ambient (winter synth and dungeon meditation styles) than metal overall, with the light airy atmospheres and no jagged edges on any instrumentation or vocals.

This paints the concept's picture perfectly; distant echoes of thoughts and experiences that you aren't even sure happened, but take in their pain, lessons and catharsis anyway.
