New York elects new mayor: Democrat Zohran Mamdani wins
The next mayor of New York City will be Democrat Zohran Mamdani, who defeated Democratic ex-governor of New York State Andrew Cuomo in the election. He ran as an independent and was endorsed by Republican President Donald Trump. Reuters and AP reported this overnight. Thirty-four-year-old Mamdani will be the first Muslim mayor of America's largest city and will also become the city's youngest mayor in more than a century when he takes office on January 1, they said.

David Beckham celebrated the knighthood with family and friends
Sir David Beckham celebrated the title. Not the football one, as one might expect for a former star footballer, but a knighthood, awarded to him by King Charles III for his services to sport and charity. David celebrated and washed it all down with his family at his friend Gordon Ramsay's restaurant in Chelsea, London. Almost all of David's family were there: wife Victoria Beckham, sons Romeo Beckham and Cruz Beckham and daughter Harper Beckham. The only one missing from the family was son Brooklyn. In addition to them and other members of the extended family, the celebration was also attended by other notable celebrities such as the aforementioned chef Gordon Ramsay and his wife and sports agent Dave Gardner, among others.

Presidents Trump and Xi Jinping begin talks in South Korea

US President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping are currently holding talks in Busan, South Korea. Television footage showed them shaking hands during a personal meeting before the summit. According to news agencies, Trump said he expects the meeting to be very successful and that a trade agreement between the two superpowers could be signed today.

The famous Louvre in Paris reopens to the public three days after the robbery. Millions of people from all over the world visit the famous museum and gallery every year. But on Sunday, it was visited by three uninvited guests who took jewels worth Napoleon's collection. Visitors didn't mind, though, and queued from early in the morning to see the famous works of world history as soon as possible.

Louvre robbery: what did the thieves steal from the Napoleon collection?

A team of experienced thieves broke into the famous Louvre museum in Paris on Sunday. They stole jewels from Napoleon's collection from the Apollo Gallery. These included..: A tiara, a necklace of earrings of Marie Amalia of Naples-Sicily, an emerald necklace and a pair of emerald earrings from the set of Empress Marie Louise of Habsburg-Lorraine, brooches in the shape of a ribbon, as well as a crown of Empress Eugenie de Montijo, wife of Napoleon III and mother of Napoleon Bonaparte. There were probably four thieves. Two took advantage of the current renovation of the famous gallery and broke in, two waited outside. The search has not yet yielded results.

The winner of the Nobel Peace Prize for 2025 is Venezuelan opposition politician María Corina Machado. The announcement was made today in Oslo by the Norwegian Nobel Committee. Eighty-eight-year-old Machado won the award for her commitment to the democratic rights of the Venezuelan people, the Nobel Committee said.

Greta Thunberg deported from Israel after being detained on humanitarian flotilla
Swedish activist and climate campaigner Greta Thunberg has been deported from Israel after her detention on a Gaza-bound humanitarian flotilla. The flotilla of 45 boats aimed to break the Israeli blockade and deliver aid to Gaza, where the UN says there is famine after two years of devastating conflict. Greta was among 161 citizens of 16 European countries expelled by Israel. The activist and 27 other Greek activists successfully landed at Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport in Athens, where they were greeted by many supporters.
