Fashion guru ends: Iconic outfits of Anna Wintour
Anna Wintour has announced the end of her tenure as editor-in-chief of American Vogue after an impressive 37 years at the helm. Anna became a fashion icon not only because of her influence, but also because of her own unwavering style. Her signature look - a mikado with straight bangs, dark glasses and matching dresses - has made her one of the fashion world's most recognisable personalities. She loved structured knee-length dresses, often with floral or geometric patterns, accessorised with a belt and Manolo Blahnik pumps. She favoured dresses by Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera, Chanel or Prada, and in the summer months she liked to wear light silk dresses in pastel colours. She wore her handbags exclusively small and in her hand, her jewellery sparingly but always elegant. She fell in love with fashion when she was the daughter of London journalist Charles Wintour, who recommended her for internships in fashion columns - first at Harper's & Queen and later at British Vogue. In 1988 she took over the reins of the American edition and in a short time changed the way people perceived fashion - she combined luxury with reality, supermodels with celebrities. It led to actresses and singers, including Meryl Streep, Beyonce and Rihanna, appearing on the front pages. Despite her reserve, she looked consistent, confident and visionary - just as her clothes did. Each of her outfits was proof that style doesn't have to be extravagant, but it does have to be her own.
