What is a chatbot?

The term "chatbot", or rather, ChatterBot, was introduced back in 1994 to refer to programs that can replace communication with a live person. But trying to disguise a bot as a consultant is not a good idea; only a very advanced program based on artificial intelligence can deceive a user.

Therefore, now chatbots mean almost any version of a program that replaces communication but does not hide it. And it can be implemented in different ways.

The chatbot installed on the website helps visitors to choose the right product or service, answers questions, solves problems, and thus reducing the load on the call center or support service.

Types of chatbots:

They are divided according to the algorithm, type, and functionality. According to the algorithm:

- Limited. This is a chatbot that communicates with visitors using a pre-designed script that includes basic and/or frequently asked questions. This is the easiest and most popular option for those who want to try this kind of feature. This type of chatbot is usually sufficient for most business needs.

- Self-developing ("smart"). This is a program based on an artificial neural network that “understands” what the conversation is about - the conversation turns out to be more realistic (the bot can even joke and pick up funny pictures on the topic of the conversation), and over time the bot learns to give more and more relevant answers. Such a solution is developed personally and costs more, but it is more pleasant to communicate with such an assistant.

The visitor “communicates” with the bot by clicking on the preset buttons – this is similar to the usual voice menu “press 1 to find out…”. Most often, this option is used in limited chatbots.

- Text.

The visitor types in their query and the chatbot recognize common words to suggest solutions or clarify the question.
