🇨🇿 President Petr Pavel is the only potential candidate for the next head of state who could receive more than half of the votes.

This follows from the results of a survey conducted at the turn of April and May, which was published today on the STEM/MARK agency’s website.

According to the survey, 53 percent of people in the Czech Republic would vote or might vote for Pavel, followed by Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) with 44 percent.

Among other figures presented to respondents by STEM/MARK, actor and presenter Marek Eben would receive 40 percent, Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček (ANO) 35 percent, and Minister of Finance Alena Schillerová (ANO) 30 percent.

🚡 The new cars of Prague’s Petřín funicular have been placed on the tracks without their protective wrapping.

Work on installing and fine-tuning the transport and control systems of the new funicular cars has now entered its next phase. The vehicles, which are expected to carry their first passengers at the end of the summer holidays or in September, have been unwrapped.

This week, technicians from the manufacturer Doppelmayr Group will carry out test runs on the line to fine-tune the braking system. Brake tests of both cars will follow.

If successful, the licensing process with the relevant authorities will begin, which should ultimately lead to the issuance of operating certificates for both vehicles.

🚞 České dráhy has announced its annual “Summer 2026” promotion, offering passengers the option to purchase special unlimited 7- or 14-day tickets at a discounted price across all domestic routes operated by the state-owned carrier.

The promotion applies to travel between July 1 and August 31, 2026.

Ticket prices remain unchanged: CZK 1,390 for seven days and CZK 1,990 for fourteen days. Reduced fares are available for children under 18, students under 26, and seniors, priced at CZK 695 and CZK 995 respectively.

The passes allow passengers to make an unlimited number of trips, including transfers, within the Czech Railways network, which covers most of the country.

Ticket sales will begin on June 15 via the company’s website and at station ticket offices.

🛫 airBaltic has joined a growing list of airlines reducing capacity this summer.

The airline has cancelled a limited number of flights, including the Riga–Prague service on June 9.

The company said the changes reflect wider industry adjustments driven by high fuel prices and ongoing pressure on operating costs.

“Schedule adjustments are standard practice. This summer, many European airlines are rescheduling routes due to fuel price pressures,” said airBaltic spokesperson Edwards Dalderis.

The reductions reflect a broader trend across Europe. Lufthansa has announced plans to cancel around 20,000 short-haul flights by October following changes in its regional operations, aiming to cut fuel consumption by roughly 40,000 tonnes.

Czech carrier Smartwings has also adjusted its summer schedule, reducing flights to Paris and temporarily suspending services to Toulouse, Bucharest and Brussels.

🚲 Prague’s city center will once again fill with cyclists on May 31 as organizers prepare for a large public ride marking World Bicycle Day.

The event, titled “Světová cyklojízda 2026” is open to everyone, including families with children and beginner riders. Participation is free of charge.

Cyclists will gather on Štvanice Island near the Bike Jesus club, with the ride set to begin at 2 p.m. Organizers say the route will cover around 10 kilometers and will include only mild elevation changes, making it accessible even for less experienced participants.

To ensure safety, police will temporarily close roads along the route before riders pass through the city.

After the ride, participants will return to Štvanice Island, where a public program is expected to begin at 4 p.m.

Organizers are asking participants to complete a short online registration form ahead of the event to help estimate attendance and coordinate traffic restrictions with police.
