🇱🇺21-magazine heeft een nieuwe redactie!
De Karelsuniversiteit in Praag draagt de redactie van het tijdschrift 21 over aan studenten van de Comeniusuniversiteit in Bratislava. De sudenten van neerlandistiek zullen naast de technische en taalkundige redactie van de site zorgen ook voor de vertaling van de auteurs- en vertalersmedaillons en ze zullen zelf een interview met de oprichter van Twan Zegers bijdragen. Jullie kunnen je verheugen op verbeteringen van de site en ook op veel nieuwe vertalingen naar het Slowaaks, aangezien sommige studenten in het kader van hun vertaalpraktijk niet alleen literaire teksten uit het Nederlands, maar ook uit het Engels en Frans zullen vertalen.
Wij denken dat de redactie van het tijdschrift in goede handen is en zien uit naar je feedback!

🇬🇧 21 magazine has a new editorial team!
Charles University in Prague hands over the editorship of 21 magazine to students from Comenius University in Bratislava. The students of Dutch Studies will take care of the technical and linguistic editing of the site, as well as of the translation of the author's and translator's medallions, and they will contribute an interview with the founder Twan Zegers. You can look forward to improvements of the site and also to many new translations into Slovak, since some students, as part of their translation practice, will translate not only literary texts from Dutch, but also from English and French.
We think the editing of the magazine is in good hands and look forward to your feedback!

During last week’s Cross Over Congress organized by the Department of Dutch at Charles University in Prague (), we were excited to talk to the fabulous Elfie Tromp (). Alongside our very own Katka Bezecná, Elfie presented her novel Pietà.

🇳🇱 Niet alleen teksten van beginnende schrijvers maar ook die van gerenomeerde namen zijn deel geworden van onze selectie. Jan Brokken heeft in ieder geval geen inleiding nodig, hoewel we over zijn carrière heel veel zouden kunnen vertellen.
De ontvanger van o.a. Lucy B. en C.W. van der Hoogtprijs wiens werk geprezen werd door The New York Times, deelt nu zijn boeiend verhaal 'Kyoto: 'Het pad van de filosoof' met onze lezers!

🇬🇧 Although this excerpt obviously focuses mainly on our Dutch readers, those who do not command the language yet shall not be deprived of the striking Japanese story by Jan Brokken, one of the most established authors in our selection, recipient of various literary prizes whose work has been praised by The New York Times!

American poet, essayist and scholar Louise Glück (b. 1943), the recipient of various other literary accolades including the Pulitzer Prize, has been awarded the 2020 Nobel Prize for Literature!

Glück, whose oeuvre was chosen for "her unmistakable poetic voice, that with austere beauty makes individual existence universal", is noted for her technically precise style, themes of isolation, sadness, family relationships and death, and her captivating lyrical reworking of classical myths.

The US poet is recognised for the "austere beauty" of her work, says the Swedish Academy

The D Day has finally arrived! After a lot of tweaking we're ready to present the official web of the '21' Magazine!

We welcome you to read literary contributions from all over the world and details about their authors and translatiors in the original language or the translation of your choice.
Keep in mind there's still plenty to come as we'll be updating the page with new contributions and translations regularly!

We're also looking for feedback from literary enthousiasts or those interested in future collaboration! Feel free to follow and share us on social media and stay tuned for more content including an introduction of some of the texts.

As we slowly bid farewell to this extraordinary summer, the pandemic situation and restrictions are once again threatening our daily life and cultural events here in the Czech Republic. Worry not, 21 is still coming to you, regardless of any further developments of the situation!

For now, we wish to share an excerpt of Maya Angelou's poem "Still I Rise" which we deem very fitting:

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
’Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
