⚠️ Storm Goretti, a powerful winter system sweeping across Europe, is disrupting travel and bringing heavy snow to Czechia today.

❄️ While the storm’s hurricane-force winds are battering the Atlantic coast, Central Europe is facing the cold side of the system, resulting in significant snowfall and dangerous ice. Václav Havel Airport (PRG) reports multiple flight cancellations and delays due to ripple effects from hubs in Amsterdam, Paris, and London.

✈️ Flight tracking confirms that flights to Amsterdam, London, and Vienna have been cancelled, while Smartwings routes to Warsaw and Budapest are facing weather-related delays. Departures to London Luton and Stansted are running 1–2 hours late due to de-icing delays, and Paris flights are facing cascading delays due to a 40 percent capacity reduction at CDG, ordered by French authorities.

📱 Millions of Czechs may have had their mobile phone call and location data collected by the government without legal basis, the Supreme Court ruled on Thursday.

🗂️ The data included who citizens called or texted and roughly where they were located, but not the content of the messages. Authorities, including police and intelligence services, could access the information, which was stored for six months under national law.

🇺🇦 Czechia will not abolish its international ammunition initiative for Ukraine, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš said on Tuesday, marking a shift from his earlier pre-election stance while stressing that no Czech state budget money will be used to finance the project.

🗣 Speaking after a meeting of leaders from the so-called Coalition of the Willing in Paris, Babiš said the initiative would continue with Czechia acting as a coordinator, but funding would come exclusively from partner countries.

Emily in…Prague? 🇨🇿✨ Read on for our Czech-ified rendition of the Netflix show 👇

Our protagonist Emily appears to live an eye-rollingly affluent lifestyle, so we have no doubt she’d find an apartment in one of the world’s ‘coolest neighborhoods’ and Prague’s highly sought-after district – Vinohrady. And her morning run destination? Swap out Sacré-Cœur for Riegrovy sady.

With Emily’s grating pronunciation of “mer-ci” and “bon-soir”, can you imagine her trying to wrap her tongue around “děkuju”? This year Czech was ranked the 8th most challenging language for English speakers to learn, and Czechia the second-hardest country in the world to live in without speaking the local language.

The marketing agency Emily works for in Prague might be located in the office district of Karlín, or – if it’s really pulling in the top luxury clients – the prestigious Pařížská Street, where it would be flanked by Gucci, Dior, and Bottega storefronts.

Emily’s brusque but endearing boss Sylvie – in this case perhaps a Markéta or Eva – may have a less hands-on, less domineering approach.

She’s fawned over croissants, donuts, Kir Royale, and Gabriel’s Michelin star food, but would Emily be so enamored with the fare the Czech Republic has to offer? Though they’re not actually of Czech origin, it’s easy to imagine Emily stopping for selfies in front of the trdelník stalls in Old Town Square during the winter months, or posing with a rohlík rather than a croissant.

What else can you envisage for Emily in Prague?

🏘️ Czechia’s housing market is shifting, and renters, prospective buyers, and homeowners alike should pay close attention. New laws are redefining who pays for repairs, how much tax households owe, and how utility costs and housing support are handled in 2026.

💸 Whether you rent, own, or are buying for the first time, these updates are likely to have a direct impact on both your wallet and your rights in the year ahead.

🥶 If you thought your morning commute in Prague was feeling a bit more Arctic than usual, you aren’t imagining it. A major disruption of the polar vortex has turned Czechia into one of the coldest spots on the planet this week.

❄️ From the frost basins of the Jizera Mountains to the cobblestones of Old Town, the country is currently enduring temperatures nearly 15°C below the long-term seasonal normal. While Scandinavia remains the coldest region in Europe (with Sweden hitting a staggering -40.8°C), the Czechia is currently holding the title for the coldest temperatures in Central Europe.

🧊 When will it end? The refrigeration of the country is expected to last until Thursday. By Friday, a low-pressure system from the Atlantic is expected to move in. While this will bring slightly warmer air, it also brings the first major forecast for heavy snow across the country.
