🟦 500 days sober
500+ miles
No excuses. No running. No booze.
Camino taught me to walk – and not stop.
Today I celebrate. Gratefully. Calmly. And fully myself.
Not in a bar. But on the edge of the world.
No backpack full of worries. No alcohol.
But a heart completely full.

🔪 The Edge of Camino – Day 24
I walked into the albergue yesterday with my little suitcase, and the guy at reception laughed like he’d just seen a magician. Pulled the suitcase from my pocket like a trick – kitchen burst into laughter. As he finished signing me in, more pilgrims arrived – chats, showers, beds, a quick video. And then came the monster dinner: 29 people, 24 seats, two girls holding a spot – but I wanted to sit elsewhere. We reshuffled. Some sour faces, but the pumpkin soup made peace. The chicken with rice... not so much.
This morning: dark and wet. I move like a shadow. Today’s stage is over 40 km – the longest yet. My body holds up, but my mind is buzzing. And I start asking: why am I doing this to myself? Why do I make this so hard? I could take it slow, enjoy the Camino. But no – I crave the edge. I need to know how far I can go. Like I don’t just want to finish – I want to earn it.
Camino throws you into intense, fleeting encounters. Brief but powerful. And then they’re gone. Everyone here is cooking their own soup in their head. And if you walk in it long enough, it thickens. Sometimes sweet, sometimes spicy – but always yours.
By the afternoon, it’s no longer walking. It’s pure effort. No thoughts left, just counting kilometers. When I finally crash at the next albergue, my choice is simple: shower, food, bed. The rest? Today I honestly couldn’t give a damn. This too is Camino.

🧭 ADAPTATION – Day 23 This morning, I lounged in a room with a private bathroom, a kitchen, and a silent roommate who luckily vanished before I woke up. A clean towel, a hot shower, breakfast on my own terms. Luxury? No – a revelation. Things I usually take for granted suddenly shined like diamonds. After breakfast, I ran into two pilgrims I’ve known for weeks. Today, they were without backpacks. They laughed and said they were inspired by me – wanted to try going light. I felt joy. Not because someone followed me, but because someone felt inspired. And then more inspiration – Ed from Britain, who cycled around the world. Packed 6,000 km into four little bags. My mini suitcase on the table, his bike next to it. No words needed. He added me on Facebook. I want to meet him again. Another gem? A phone call with my daughter. Open. Trusting. About things you don’t share with just anyone. Maybe this is what I’m walking for. And one more stop – Emma, a kind-hearted Slovak. Sitting in a forest on a cable drum. I sat next to her. We talked like old friends. Tonight, we’ll have dinner together. Today, the Camino whispered: Comfort is not a sin. Toughness is not a virtue. And adapting is not defeat.🧭 ADAPTATION – Day 23 👉 Follow me 🍸❌ 🎬 ep. coming soon

🦟 MOSQUITOES & GRATITUDE – Day 22 After my longest stage yet, I dragged myself into a sleepy Spanish village crushed beneath a highway bridge. Above me, a ribbon of concrete. Below, a locked-up building that looked like a defunct colonnade. Doors shut, windows too. Finally, I found a buzzer—rang it—and the doors opened by themselves. Inside: silence. Vending machines. A sign saying, “Pick a bed. See you tonight.” I walked through three huge rooms full of empty metal beds and mirrors. Not a soul. Just me and a dusty fan in the lost & found. Later, a young Spaniard arrived—Xabi. Quiet, polite. For a while, it looked like he’d sleep somewhere else. But then, from a hundred beds, he chose the one right next to mine. Perfect. I fell asleep like a rock. But before midnight, I woke up boiling. Tried to cool off in the bathroom—door was barricaded. Probably Xabi. Then saw a ragged woman outside the window and panicked. She was walking a dog. Okay. False alarm. And then it began. Mosquito Luftwaffe. Scouts. Fighters. Bombers. One attack after another. My skin was on fire. Took my shirt off. Opened the window. Nothing worked. I fought for two hours, then passed out from exhaustion. Morning: fog, drizzle, Neotren. Two coffees and silence on the road. All day I kept thinking about that night. And it hit me: yeah, it was hell. Mosquitoes, heat, paranoia. But in the grand scheme? So petty. I’m not locked up in rehab. I’m not alone. I’m not lost. I’m here. On the path I chose. And none of this is guaranteed. I’m truly grateful for it all. And tonight? My first night alone in a room. In a real hotel. No metal bunk bed. A real bed. Before I sleep, I’ll shut the door and kill every last mosquito. With my bare mouth if I have to. 👉 Follow me 🍸❌ 🎬 Next episode coming

🎯 HIGH GOAL - Day 21 Morning on repeat – five kilometers through Avilés in the dark, no romance, no ocean, just streetlights and concrete. Right from the start I kept wondering: why did I plan the longest stage for today? And then I got it – because what I’m living right now isn’t enough. I’m doing fine. But I know I can go higher. And I know I deserve it. I kept walking and thinking how much a big goal changes us. Not by what we reach in the end, but by who we become along the way. I was so deep in this thought I walked 15 kilometers straight without even noticing. And then came the reward – scenery straight out of a travel brochure. On the map I saw a closed-off section between the highway and the old road. I went there. And I saw nature taking back what’s hers. Grass already pushing through the asphalt – in a few years, it’ll be forest again. A beautiful sight. And a beautiful day. Over 30 kilometers, but it felt right. I’m keeping my pace. Nothing hurt today, but I felt every thought. The whole day was a mental rollercoaster – my legs just followed orders. I realized that the biggest exhaustion doesn’t come from walking, but from doubt. And when doubt disappears, you can go just about anywhere. 👉 Follow me 🍸❌ 🎬 More to come

⏱️ THE VALUE OF TIME – Day 20
Today I set off really early – I was on the road before five. It was dark for almost an hour, but that was intentional. I had to cross a city, and there was no way around it. Gijón. The walk felt good, though the morning was, of course, cold again. Around 6:30, the city began to wake up, and chaos erupted – people rushing like mad, eating on the go, on their phones, multitasking, minds elsewhere.
And that’s when I realized how much I had slowed down. I had come into a city of speed and noise, and suddenly I noticed: I had slowed myself down – consciously, intentionally. I started thinking about my time. Not how much I have. But how much it’s worth.
Because we trade time for money like it’s infinite. We give days, years, our lives.
But time isn’t a bank account. It’s a faucet. And it runs.
People know how much they earn per hour. But almost no one knows what their hour of life is worth.
And right then, I felt grateful. Despite everything life threw at me, I was thankful to be able to realize this.

The moment I left the city, I was hit by a horrific view: a massive industrial complex – maybe coal, gas, energy – I’m not sure. It reminded me of Mordor. Like orcs forging weapons, fire roaring, smoke pouring from the towers. Flames shot from one chimney. Thick black smoke from another. I felt disgusted.
But then I climbed a hill, crossed the horizon – and like magic, it vanished. The city was gone. I was back in nature. Trees. Trails. Peace.
And as a gift – I ran into my three Polish friends again. They always make me smile.

But it didn’t last long – we were soon back in the suburbs. Just as ugly as the morning.
Today felt like black and white. Day and night. Light and shadow.
Over 30 kilometers behind me. And tomorrow? Even more.
I’m getting into the rhythm.
