WHAT A LOVELY ALBUM
*
Yesterday I finally got around to listening to the new CD. I had it for a few days but I wanted to be able to give it my full attention and I’m so glad I did.
*
I have previously gushed over the BMO’s music in a previous workplace of mine, and it is no secret that they are my favourite ukulele act as well as great friends of mine. Despite this, or actually in spite of my inherent bias, this album is just stunning.
*
The production is crisp and clear, the performances excellent as always, and it carries such a class about it befitting of the era it replicates.
*
But this is so much more than just a collection of songs.
*
Drunk With Love showcases music of LGBT+ musicians from before the Stonewall Riots of 1969. This album acts as a retrospective time capsule of an oft-forgotten gay history. It’s preservation and reimagination of these artworks make for something truly special.
*
Somewhere Over The Rainbow was this album’s “Under The Moon” in which it’s beauty almost brought me to tears. I just closed my eyes, felt the shivers as I allowed Charlottes voice to move me. Other highlights include Das Lila Lied and Prove It On Me Blues, but the entire album is just stunning.
*
I implore you, ukulele player or otherwise, to purchase this album. It’s excellent, and a band like the Bad Mouse Orchestra deserve your support.
