Yesterday at Oper Oder Spree we welcomed a special guest :
Winfried Hofinger / Hofinger Agency from Düsseldorf to work with our singers in an audition setting.

Auditioning for an agency is an important step in every singer’s career. After the audition, the participants received valuable feedback as well as professional advice on voice, repertoire, and artistic development from Winfried Hofinger and Nena Brzakovic.

Originally from Austria, Winfried Hofinger studied voice at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. His career as a bass-baritone led him to theaters and festivals both in Germany and abroad. From 2007 to 2017 he worked as an artists’ manager for opera and concert singers at the renowned Inge Tennigkeit Opera Agency. In early 2018 he took over the agency and founded the Opernagentur Winfried Hofinger in Düsseldorf.

Today we present Alex Ilenko our répétiteur since 2002!
Born in Russia, Alexey Ienko studied piano, choral conducting and orchestral conducting at conservatories in Vladivostok, Kazan and Krasnodar. He has worked as a répétiteur at colleges, universities and opera houses, and served as director of the Music and Art School in Taman. Since 1999 he has taught piano, organ and choir at the Oder-Spree Music School, and since 2000 he has also been répétiteur and rehearsal director at the Singakademie Frankfurt (Oder). As pianist of the International Opera Course Oper Oder-Spree in Beeskow, he has collaborated on numerous productions and prepared critical editions of operatic works, ranging from Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta to Schubert’s Die Freunde von Salamanca.

"I am very proud and happy to have been part of this work since 2002. It always gives me great joy to see how much highly talented young singers can achieve in a short period of time, and it is, of course, a great honor for me to be part of this team."

We continue with the presentation of our Masterclass Team- Docents:
Today and tomorrow we are presenting you Evgeny Nikiforov and Alex Ilenko , our devoted répétiteurs, who for many years have accompanied our singers in lessons and ensured that everything is musically in its proper place.

Evgeny and Alex are always present in our singing classes, and we truly have the privilege of working with them on a regular basis. This is an invaluable part of a singer’s development – learning how to work with a répétiteur, with one’s pianist, as well as fostering collaboration between docent and pianist, and between student and pianist:

Evgeny A. Nikiforov first studied at the College of Culture and Arts in Miass, Russia. In 2000, he graduated with distinction from the Ural State Conservatory “Mussorgsky” in Yekaterinburg as a concert pianist, répétiteur, chamber musician, and piano pedagogue. He went on to complete the Concert Examination (2004) and the Lied Accompaniment Examination (2006) at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne.

Since 2006, the freelance pianist has been living and working in Berlin and its surroundings as a piano teacher, répétiteur, and chamber musician. Since 2009, he has held a teaching position at the Berlin University of the Arts. In addition, he has been a répétiteur at the International Masterclass Oper Oder-Spree (Beeskow) since 2013, at the Federal Singing Competition since 2018, and at the Chamber Opera Schloss Rheinsberg since 2020.

In 2019 and again in 2024, Evgeny Nikiforov appeared as pianist and as the composer Alexander von Zemlinsky in the prologue to the opera Der Zwerg at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

> “I have been part of Oper Oder-Spree since 2013. The International Opera Course in Beeskow has become an important part of my life. The artistic collaboration with some of the singers often continues beyond the summer course – and sometimes even true friendships are born from it.”

Today we proudly present our Insa Bernds !🎶
Insa is the musical director of this year’s Pasticcio "Opera in the Barn".
She chooses the repertoire, works tirelessly with the ensembles, and rehearses with the participants long after the official course day has ended.💪

Since 2019, Insa Bernds has served as répétiteur for the Oper Oder-Spree masterclass, where she also takes on the musical direction of the scene evening Opera in the Barn. She is regularly involved in many other productions of the festival, including the children’s opera Das kleine weiße Pony and the 2024 revival of Traum-Nacht-Sommer.

She studied piano, music theory, and violin, followed by musicology and comparative literature in Lübeck, Freiburg, Milan, and Berlin. Based in Berlin, she works as a freelance musician and musicologist, with a particular focus on collaborative piano.

As répétiteur and pianist she has been engaged in numerous music theatre productions, frequently also assuming musical preparation and direction (including at the Neuköllner Oper, Oper Oder-Spree, Schlossplatztheater Köpenick, and the Lübeck Summer Operetta). She performs regularly as orchestral pianist, organist, and harpsichordist with ensembles such as the Preußisches Kammerorchester, Berliner Symphoniker, Kammerphilharmonie Berlin, and the Szczecin Philharmonic. She also appears as accompanist with leading choirs (Rundfunkchor Berlin, Hanns Eisler Choir Berlin, Clara Schumann Women’s Choir, Wilmersdorfer Kammerchor) and vocal ensembles, as well as in early jazz and swing groups (Berlin Shimmy Orchestra, Alec Wilder Octet Berlin).

Since 2020 she has held a teaching appointment at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK), joined in 2021 by an appointment at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler and in 2025 by a further position at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts.

International Operamasterclass “Oper Oder Spree” 🎭🎃🎶
Backstage moments to remember 🤣🤣💪
Yesterday, our vocal coach Nena Brzakovic added a warm and delicious touch to the day by making pumpkin soup for all participants – right in the middle of a bustling rehearsal schedule.
With temperatures around 35 °C (95 °F) in the shade 😬, Rachela, Peter, and Anna joined Nena in chopping vegetables before heading back to rehearse in the barn.
While they were on stage, Nena finished the soup, and in the afternoon break we all enjoyed it — the perfect boost before the final run.

Another unexpected highlight: Lars Franke, our stage direktor, stepped in to double for an ill singer in the Mozarts sextet from "Cosi fan tutte" . His performance brought a lot of joy to all of us and turned the rehearsal into a moment to remember.

Today marks the long-awaited barn premiere! It’s going to be hot in every way – on stage, in the audience, and beyond. 🌟🔥

Today we present to you our vocal coach, opera and concert singer Bernhard Hansky , who has been in our Oper Oder Spree Team since 2019!

German baritone Bernhard Hansky studied at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin with Hanno Müller-Brachmann and Kammersänger Roman Trekel, and participated in masterclasses with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Angelika Kirchschlager, and Brigitte Fassbaender. He made his early solo appearances at the Oper Oder-Spree Festival before joining the Opera Studio of the Komische Oper Berlin (2012–2014). Permanent engagements followed at the Semperoper Dresden and the Hamburg State Opera.

Guest appearances have taken him to the Berlin State Opera (Turandot), the Salzburg Easter Festival, Modena, the Grafenegg Festival, as well as to Tallinn, Copenhagen, Prague, and Brno. His repertoire includes Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), Dandini (La Cenerentola), Ping (Turandot), Zurga (Les pêcheurs de perles), Dr. Falke (Die Fledermaus), Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), and Kurwenal (Tristan und Isolde), a role he debuted in October 2024 in Prague under Petr Popelka. He has collaborated with conductors such as Christian Thielemann, Zubin Mehta, Kent Nagano, Václav Luks, and Alessandro De Marchi.

Equally in demand on the concert stage, Hansky performs the great oratorio repertoire from Bach to Mendelssohn. He has appeared at the Berlin Philharmonie, Konzerthaus Berlin, Gewandhaus Leipzig, Berlin Cathedral, Konzerthaus Freiburg, with the Orchestre National de Lille, at the Kraków Philharmonic, and as bass soloist in Bach’s St John Passion in Montréal under Masaaki Suzuki.
Hansky says:
“For me, Oper Oder-Spree is truly a homecoming — a chance to work with friends and long-time companions in a magnificent setting.”
