Monolith Cocktail about Ujif notfound's "Postulate"

"With no end in sight, and yet another deadline from Trump crossed, Putin’s barbaric invasion of Ukraine depressingly drags on. Three and half years in – although the real flashpoint came in 2014 and the annexation of the Crimea – and Russia continues to pound away at an already devastated ruinous landscape. Casualties may have reached the million mark, as whole generations fill the mass grave sites on a scale rarely seen outside the scenarios of both World Wars.

In these horrific times it falls upon labels such as the electronic artists Dmyto Fedorenko and Kateryna Zavoloka’s I Shall Sing Until My Land Is Free to spread the sound of the sonic resistance. A soft power, a cultural emissary of that country’s experimental scene, the profits from its roster of artists, which includes both its founders, are donated to several self-defence and humanitarian foundations and local volunteer activists.

The latest release on that platform sees the noted Ukrainian multi-disciplinary electronic sonic, media and visual artist Georgy Potopalsky channel the apocalyptic horror, the destroyed and twisted concrete and steel scarred geography of his homeland to create a pulverised industrial and force field electrified work of conflict and brutalism. Under the Ujif_notfound alias, and with the artist’s usual themes that draw upon the volatility and dynamics between man and the machine, between user and interface, there’s now a focus towards, what the PR description describes as, ‘blasted soundscapes, frenetic breaks and bristling guitar noise’."

Philippe Petit has been supporting left field music since 1983 (animating radio programs, editing ‘zines + running his labels Pandemonium Rdz. and BiP_HOp Music). Feeling lucky to release on several international labels he likes to be introduced as a « Musical-Travel-Agent ». Relying on electricity/amplification to produce, manipulate, work on sound-material, but trying his best to make sure that each album differs from the previous one, trying to avoid routine and surprise listeners.

“Brainwave Music No. III” was initially recorded live on October 30th, 2021, as part of 10 Brain Wave – sound installation – performances by Ilpo Väisänen and Dirk Dresselhaus in the Life on a Leaf house, Turku, Finland. And on August 6th, 2024, Ulrich Krieger made his double bass clarinet overdubs at his home studio, Hubbard Road, Acton, California.

“𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗡 𝗦𝗔𝗖𝗥𝗘𝗗 𝗖𝗜𝗥𝗖𝗟𝗘𝗦”

This work can be thought of as a book, adventure, walk, abstract pilgrimage or mental process within the sound. The segments are categorised into pages, types of light, stages of various kinds, a poetic soundtrack of a fable, and a number of atmospheres and enigmas of locations.

'Within Sacred Circles' tells multilayered stories. One can think of medieval pages that combine images and texts or calligraphy.

This is the third album from the collaborative project between Thorsten Soltau (Germany) and Max Kuiper (The Netherlands). The project’s sound worlds are inspired by the Dark Ages in general, and more specifically by ‘The Book of Ysegrim’, also known as ‘Reynard the Fox’.

The collaboration now operates under the name Chanteclin ɛt Chantecler, representing two characters from that book.

Катерина Заволока — композиторка експериментальної електронної музики, талановита саундартистка та дизайнерка з Києва. Виконавиця постійно залучена до роботи в різноманітних кросжанрових проєктах, а також відповідає за візуальну складову лейблів I Shall Sing Until My Land Is Free та Prostir, які й видали цю роботу на платівках та дисках.

Після альбому “AMULET” 2022-го виконавиця займалася іншими музичними проєктами, але зараз повернулася з новим сольним альбомом, що сприймається як м'якіший і навіть прозоріший у порівнянні з попередніми роботами.

"Істина" продовжує дослідження концепції внутрішнього визволення та свободи. Цілісний підхід до українських народних традицій у складнішому та гармонійнішому звучанні, мінімалістичних мелодіях та насиченій поліфонії, озвучення щирої емоції. Подорож від медитативного самоспостереження до моментів лютої експресії та поліритмічної войовничості", – розповідала виконавиця про цю роботу.

Our project continues, and today we are glad to announce a new release, contributed to us by our long time friend and colleague from Sweden, Anders Dahl.

𝗚𝗔̊𝗡𝗚𝗚𝗥𝗜𝗙𝗧 "𝗧𝗜𝗗𝗕𝗜𝗧𝗦 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗠𝗦"

"I'm so happy I got to tour Ukraine in 2007 together with four Ukrainian and three Swedish musicians. I experienced a vibrant and diverse country, full of regional character and cultural richness. I loved the experimental music scene, performing with my friends, and the long train journeys that stitched it all together.

Although I didn't have Ukraine specifically in mind when I created this music, the stream of news reports in recent years deeply shaped its direction. Gånggrifts general theme of decay could be thought of as global instead of personal. A reflection of a world veering off course.

I hope Ukraine continues to endure to remain a free and peaceful country. I know that experimental music won't help much, but that's what I got. This album on I Shall Sing Until My Land Is Free is a small way of giving something back for the rich memory and experience I had in Ukraine. I hope to return someday!"

Gånggrift is a mashup of doom metal, noise, electro-acoustic improvisation, and dub, inspired by rural decay and resisting the gloom of getting old. Born from a desire to create music that embraces uncertainty, producing a sound that is as raw as it is unstable and unpredictable. Where each piece feels as likely to fall apart as to hold together. Band members are Anders Dahl (bass, noise, drums, organ, production) and Alba Vera Bergeling (vocals).
