1. Make A “Feel-Good” List
First of all, you need a go-to resource that you can go to at times of stress. I like to call this a “feel-good” list. What you do is write down all the things that make you happy, relaxed, and could cheer you up! It can be as simple as your favorite meal, a walk in the park, or a road trip. Whenever you feel the weight of the world check your list and do what makes you feel good.

2. Breathe
Breathwork is one of my favorite tools to get centred and release stress in a very short period of time. I’ve been a Yoga practitioner for decades and have completed my Yoga Teacher Training in 2014. What I loved about the practice is that we did 30–40 day cycles to do certain practices. One of the practices was pranayama or breathwork. I was amazed to see how quickly my state of mind would shift with just a few simple breaths!

Contrary to common belief, my friends’ advice, and my creeping fear, I left a well-paid job before figuring out the next step.

The first couple of months went by fast. I flew back home and treated my family on a special trip. I’ll never forget the smile on my nephew’s face when we arrived at the Airbnb. He was running from one room to the other, jumping on every bed, beaming with exhilaration. It indeed was a priceless moment, just like the credit card advertisement had promised.

With a lot more time now available to me, I could get enough sleep and make myself breakfast. I had time to read, journal, and write. I consumed online content like never before. I also consumed products. I thought, hey, you deserve it. You’ve worked hard for your money.

“The most important thing to remember is that you can wear all the greatest clothes and all the greatest shoes, but you’ve got to have a good spirit on the inside. That’s what’s really going to make you look like you’re ready to rock the world.”

I checked my annual subscriptions on services or apps that I had little or no use for. I’m not going to go into the details here because it would be painfully dull for you and embarrassing for me, but suffice it to say that I saved a few hundred dollars in the process.

Meanwhile, I was trying to hush the inner critic that was going, ‘Geez, woman, were you sleepwalking when you clicked yes?’. I unsubscribed and, feeling a lot lighter, exhaled.

Remember, sometimes the only way forward is through an exit door.

We all have the same 24 hours every day. Yet, sometimes we feel 24 hours is not enough. Sometimes we have to wake up until midnight, or even 3 AM, to do some deadlines. I don’t blame you for this since we have different priorities and needs. And for sure, we have different time management.

Time management isn’t a new problem for everyone, whether you are still studying or already working for years. There is always an excuse you can’t finish one responsibility because of the messed-up time management. Nevertheless, it does not only harm you but also people in your circle. Your family. Your best friend. Your partner. Or even your boss.

There are many time management techniques or applications that help you get better at managing your time. However, even you could find hundreds of time management applications; it’s a bit hard to find the best app that suits you. You need to pay for some premium features. Other days, your out-to-date phone doesn’t give you any notifications from the application.

When writing letters, you tend to be as open as you can. All your mind is splurging out on to paper, and it may seem like a mess at first.

You see, the best thing about our relationship is that we are completely open to each other. I don’t hold anything back, and nor does he. Ok, so he is a big sufferer of debilitating depression and other mental health issues, so that’s one of the big reasons he ignores me, but not intentionally.

When I brought to his attention that when he does ignore me, it makes me feel like an annoying kid seeking attention or that maybe he doesn’t like me as I like him… Mr Doubt (so we call him!) appears in my mind and makes me battle with all the judgements that your mind squabbles with at times of uncertainty.

First and foremost, the trick on how to deal with ignorance in a long-distance relationship is patience. Sometimes your partner is doing something or going through something that maybe you can’t solve. Hard to accept, I know.

Your mind may be racing about things they might be doing, or who knows what crazy equations we come up in our mind with. This time it’s different for me. With my ex, I used to be scared of who he was seeing (I had trust issues), but now I know where he is and what he is likely to be doing. I know the wifi doesn’t work overall on the mental clinic campus, so I can understand if he’s not online all the time.

However, I still get frustrated. I get frustrated that he doesn’t take me into account being at home all alone after being with him nearly 24/7 for seven weeks, and the change has been hard to handle.

With awareness, the old mind will die. The mind is a prison. Awareness is getting out of that prison. And once you’re out of it, you’ll feel how a bird feels flying in the sky. She is not afraid of falling. She never even thinks of falling because she has immense trust in her wings.

The day you’ll be free of fear, new freedom and peace will prevail. You’ll realise that nothing can really be taken away from you because Nothing is really yours. And at the same time, Everything is just yours.

What is the first thing you want when you fall in love? That the one whom you love becomes yours. Right? Suppose you fall in love with a woman. You want her to choose you over her current partner. And she does.

When she comes to you to become yours, she never comes alone. With her comes a fear too. The fear of you getting left by her for some other man in the distant future. She has just left some other man for you. She has chosen you over someone. Still, your mind cannot push this fear out. The fear remains. It is the fear of abandonment.

When you did not have her, the fear was also not present. But as she came, the fear came along with her. This fear is not present if you are her first love. The question is, why?.
