Over on YouTube there's a dreamy music video for "Dreaming Water" – the b-side of the current Odd Beholder single "Thank You For Shopping With Us". Watch here:

"Dreaming Water" is, in the broadest sense, written by machines and robots. Leipzig-based musician Markus Rom composed the beat for the song using kinetic MIDI robots. The unusual harmonies, in turn, originate from the Arca Musarithmica of 1650, a composition algorithm devised by the Jesuit monk Athanasius Kircher, who is regarded as one of the first inventors of artificial creativity.

Weinmann chose not to use modern LLMs or Suno. On the one hand, this was to highlight that the idea of a composition robot has been around for a long time. But it was also, quite simply, to save water. In the lyrics, she describes humanity as ‘dreaming water’, alluding to the fact that we are depriving ourselves of the very foundations of life if we continue to rely on the enormous consumption of energy and water involved in building new data centres.

"Dreaming Water" is a Beatles-esque, baroque-inspired hymn to the biological foundations of humanity and a call for solidarity amongst water-based beings against the machines.

Hiii, happy Monday! Hope you didn't miss Eilis Frawley's new song "Calm Down". It's the sophomore single from her forthcoming album "Twist My Words" (out in November).

The song confronts the overwhelming flow of information in contemporary life and the illusion of truth in an algorithmic world. Wrapped in Eilis' signature approach—direct, unforgiving spoken word layered over kraut-like rhythms—the single asks urgent questions about who controls what we see and whether we're choosing our beliefs or simply absorbing what we've been fed.

Berlin friends, next week Pop-Kultur Berlin is happening all around town again. Happy to be part of it! 💚

On Tuesday the kewlest Wedding based music companies – that is von der haardt, !K7 and us – bring together some of their artists for "In The Neighborhood" over at Panke. Buddies Asbjørn and La Boum Fatale will play their "HAUSPARTY" set creating a sound that effortlessly brings together pop, electronica, UK garage, house, and experimental club music. A tribute to club culture and to the spaces where community, freedom, and q***r self-determination have been and continue to be lived.

On Thursday the label market kicks off again at Festsaal Kreuzberg. We will bring some nice vinyl and thingies – as well as Painting, who play one of their amazing live shows blending punk, math rock, techno, free jazz, experimental pop, and electronic music into a sound that consistently defies genre conventions.

Odd Beholder is expanding her current album "Honest Work" with six more tracks and releases the EP "Funny Business" this autumn. "Thank You For Shopping With Us" is first single from the EP – out now!

Inspired by Alan Ginsberg’s poem "A Supermarket in California" the track explores a sense of disorientation in consumer society. Told from the perspective of a supermarket employee, it highlights the various roles this person is forced to take on – from bouncer to social worker, and, of course, ultimately, sales assistant.

Fifteen years after "Chiaroscuro" sent the Norwegian band Einar Stray Orchestra out into the world, they return to their debut album with "Chiaroscuro Variations": Seven artists were invited to reinterpret one song each from the 2011 album.

"Chiaroscuro" was made by musicians barely in their twenties. The album was later issued in Europe and Japan, praised by BBC as “breathtaking”, and called a “cult classic” by Loudness. "Very different artists have met these songs in their very own distinctive way," says Einar Stray. "What I like about these versions is that they don’t sound too respectful."

10 years ago, in mid-July 2016, we released the first song together with . Phew, time flies, huh?! So happy to be part of your journey! A lot of wonderful music, heartwarming shows, inspiring talks and deep insights followed „Landscape Escape“. And there’s more to come – ha! 🥰

The video for „Landscape Escape“ was shot by the film maker Grambow + Kirchknopf in collaboration with the Azerbaijan Social & Modern Dance Association. Better version can be found on the other internet.
