A synthesis of thoughts between cultural shapeshifters and unmistakable artists. Hometown is about who we are - as creatives, as humans, as citizens.

It’s where we come from and where we want to be going. Hometown investigates the work of passionate creators all over the globe, as a reflection of today’s constantly evolving zeitgeist. By digging deep into the complex dynamics of modern-day systems and their functions, we hope to reach the core of each topic, and collectively discover new possibilities for change.

Guatemalan photographer Juan Brenner is driven to tell the untold stories of the Kaqchiquel survivors and their descendants. His images revolve around the tragic uprooting of thousands of people from their homeland in Guatemala. The focus is on their hellish journey across the Pacific Ocean and arrival in unknown and dangerous territory – a journey that Juan followed, documenting in detail, equipped with his camera and an assistant over several trips.

Sleeping in B&B’s along the route, his goal was to search for the descendants of the Kaqchiquel survivors, acknowledging that while their names may be unknown, the energy of their souls may persist. Some may have died under the snow, while others became slaves in Cusco, Peru, or settled in the Ambato area of Ecuador. The intent is to honour their history through the images and storytelling.

French painter , who was previously featured here on our channel, sent us a sweet video message and a new piece of work from Tokyo 🇯🇵

„The gaze is a recurring element in my work. It evokes the experience of being watched, judged and desired, but also the way we look at ourselves. The black sphere plays an important role in the painting. It represents something dense and heavy—an inner burden we carry without always being able to name it.“

A few (humble) words on four of ‘s artworks.

Born in Florence in 1996 and now based in Turin, Giulio Noccesi creates paintings that quietly dissolve the boundaries between memory and the everyday. During our visit to his studio last November, we encountered a practice shaped by careful observation, where familiar landscapes, interiors, and objects slip into poetic, dreamlike compositions. This collection brings together a selection of original works that reflect Noccesi’s distinctive visual language—paintings that invite a slower way of looking and reveal new details with every return.

The biggest joy next to actually working with the artists and making the work is interacting with you as a community. For almost two years now we have been visiting artists inside their studios and in random places around the globe and to share these stories with you is a true blessing. We couldn’t be more grateful for your support and all the thoughtful comments, messages and contributions you have given us over the last few years. This project certainly feels like its own living thing and we will be consciously listening to it to understand what it wants to become.

For those of you who wanna dive into our shared cosmos and become a part of our „Hometown Friends“ family, check out the link in our bio.
