A synthesis of thoughts between cultural shapeshifters and unmistakable artists. Hometown is about who we are - as creatives, as humans, as citizens.

It’s where we come from and where we want to be going. Hometown investigates the work of passionate creators all over the globe, as a reflection of today’s constantly evolving zeitgeist. By digging deep into the complex dynamics of modern-day systems and their functions, we hope to reach the core of each topic, and collectively discover new possibilities for change.

Our new film opens the doors to the Porto studio of Portuguese painter whose independent practice moves between solitude and sharing. From her New York residency with .pt to new works for a group show called ‘A Casa de Francisca Dumont’ at Palacete Severo by , Vera transforms everyday encounters and found objects into paintings that carry a quiet, visceral force.

The way home is the way into our hearts
Where, maybe, we will find
a whole universe

With each step we take towards each other
and towards ourselves
as not one single entity
But a fragment connected to many
We may glimpse a little bit
Of this essence

Home is here
And home is there, too
Home lies in your hands,
the flowers you picked carefully on the way /home/,
and put in your favourite blue vase with the tiny red dots

Home is the memory of the smell of your mum’s apple pie cooking in the oven, the purring of your cat sleeping in your lap

Home is also there
(Isn’t it funny that here is contained in the word there?)
In the nightsky, the sound of the wind in the trees, the ever-changing yet ever-there earth beneath you

Is home an inbetween place after all?

All I know is
That we are all on the way home
Somewhere, someplace (,someone)
As we walk a little bit closer
Towards ourselves
And towards each other.

And I am grateful for everyone
I share with
some steps on the way

More and more I start to think that
The way home
means taking care of each other
beyond the limits of our (in)finite lives
which are the traces that we leave?
Should be as much a question
As where we put our feet down
/

Who is there to hold us
when our bodies decompose
turning into ashes, earth?

What more can I hope for
Than that the miracles
which sustained me,
the things that brought me joy
may bring joy then
to somebody else?

The stories that I told you
Will be told again
Evolved by the touch of
A hundred lips

moving
Someone
A little closer
To their heart
On the way
Home
