Worn Pop presents a Berlin show of Danish electronic duo Lust For Youth, the residents of infamous Sacred Bones Records. With special guests of Ukrainian synth-pop act Aircraft.
Lust for Youth is a phenomenal example of a musical group that has masterfully modernized synth pop for the 21st century. Originally founded as a solo project by swedish born electronic musician Hannes Norrvide, the group has since grown to include the danish-native producer and guitarist Malthe Fischer. Their early music was characterized by a unique blend of synth-pop and post-punk, often described as "dark, cold, atonal, tormented, lonely, and lower than lo-fi.” However, the breakthrough album ”International”, released in 2014, demonstrated a remarkable evolution of their sound, showcasing a vibrant and uplifting synth-pop masterpiece that harkens back to iconic styles of Pet Shop Boys and New Order.
With a seemingly effortless grace, Lust for Youth invites us to join on a dizzying journey of falling and flying all at once. Their latest work features bright and infectious pop compositions that showcase a mastery of song craft, unhindered by anxiety. Despite the evolution of their sound, Lust for Youth remains true to their roots as one of love’s most honest chroniclers, detailing the pangs of a process that is all too often sullen. Through their artful exploration of this universal theme, Lust for Youth has created a body of work that is both captivating and deeply resonant.
Aircraft is a project of Ukrainian musician Daniel Merkulov was founded back in 2011 in Kyiv. The lo-fi sound is combined with gentle vocals, sometimes reminiscent of early Depeche Mode, warm and brooding guitar motifs and the classic sound of drum machines and synthesizers of back days, echoe Cocteau Twins and A.R. Kane. From light irony of TR/ST, the vibe can switch to the depressive and gothic like This Mortal Coil, revealing the most hidden places of Aircraft's creativity, which can best be heard in the latest album Sadhu (2023).
