This year's Governance Report investigates the role of infrastructure in the development of countries and communities. Governance indicators help understanding complex facts and make correlations visible.

Since 2013, the Governance Report has been edited by Professor Helmut Anheier and the Hertie School of Governance, has been published by Oxford University Press, and has been designed by Plural Berlin.

The Hertie School’s Governance Report 2016 was released on 10th May at the OECD headquarters in Paris. The Report’s key findings conclude that vast spending does not spell high-quality infrastructure, and managing political priorities and coordinating among stakeholders are currently the top challenges in governance.

“When taking a closer look, the indicators reveal that countries vary significantly in the ways and the extent to which they manage to translate resources into good outcomes.” - Helmut K. Anheier, President of the Hertie School and co-author of The Governance Report 2016.

The Report also includes the 2016 Governance Indicators, interactive tools that assess governments’ capacities to plan, manage, and carry out infrastructure projects.
