VORBESTELLUNG
Neues Fotobuch:

Thomas Hoepker
DDR / East Germany
Colour Works 1972–1990

LAST CHANCE — This four-hour seminar approaches the photo book from both theoretical and practical angles, guiding you through key ideas in image analysis, the construction of image pairs, and the shaping of narrative through sequence and design. Drawing on my experience as co-director of Buchkunst Berlin and instructor at institutions such as Ostkreuz School of Photography, I trace the full arc of the photo book process from foundational elements like cover design, endpapers, sequencing, and image relationships (contrast, reflection, visual echoes), to the role of text and archival materials. I also address the realities of contemporary publishing, including types of photo books, pitching strategies, market understanding, and navigating both analog and digital distribution channels.

By the end of this program, you gain the tools and insight to understand how photographic projects come together as books, whether self-published, pitched to a publisher, or produced collaboratively.

Hannah Modigh
Dream Baby Dream

The Buchkunst Berlin gallery presents the exhibition “Dream Baby Dream,” featuring photographs by internationally renowned Swedish photographer Hannah Modigh!

The exhibition focuses on the theme of adolescence. In her often socially documentary yet equally poetic photo series, Hannah Modigh creates timeless images that connect growing up, origins, memories, and various temporal planes. The emotions, gestures, and postures express the awareness of change and the search for identity. Photographs from the series „Hillbilly He**in Honey,“ „The Milky Way,“ „Hurricane Season,“ „Delta,“ „Searching for Sivagami,“ and „Sunday Morning Comin‘ Down“ are on display.

The theme of growing up is evident in almost all of Hannah Modigh’s series. Personal memories and diary entries are a recurring element in the development of her long-term projects, which she photographs exclusively in analogue. In her landscapes and some of her portraits, the artist uses light and weather conditions as filters and abstractions to create painterly moods. Hannah Modigh’s photographs evoke thoughts of moments, events, and places that we find in our memories.
