We wish you a happy birthday Bernd!

Bernd Kahnau began his career at Porsche in 1979. He was no stranger to the company, as his father, Willi Kahnau, had played a key role in establishing production in Zuffenhausen.

Kahnau initially worked as a production planner for the Porsche 928 chassis assembly line. In 1982, he moved to the Weissach Development Center and joined the project management team for the Porsche 911.

With the completion of the first 911 Speedster, Bernd Kahnau’s career at the Porsche Development Center in Weissach really took off, as the car became a true success story. As a result, Kahnau went on to lead the project for the next generation of the 911 and eventually became the architect of the 993, 996, 997, and 991 generations.

Following the successful launch of the 991 model series, Bernd Kahnau retired.

The first generation of the Porsche 911 – the so-called F-Model – was produced between the 1965 and 1973 model years.

To mark the 60th anniversary of the F-Series in 2025, Berlin Motor Books will publish the limited edition book PORSCHE 911 F-Model “60 YEARS” 1965–1973 on November 9, 2025.

On the death of Porsche „musketeer“ Hans Springmann

As part of the legendary Musketeers, Hans Springmann modeled the Porsche 911, which was created in the studio under the direction of Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. He has now passed away at the age of 88.

Hans Springmann had been in contact with the Porsche family since his earliest days, as his mother had already worked in the guest house in Feuerbach for many years. Through his contact with the Porsche family, Hans Springmann also applied for a job at the company in Zuffenhausen.

Springmann began his career at Porsche at the age of 22 and worked for the company for 38 years. He became the fourth employee to start work in Ferdinand Alexander Porsche’s studio.

Under the direction of Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the „musketeers“ Heinz Unger, Ernst Bolt and Hans Springmann modeled the first Porsche 901 on a 1:1 scale, which was later renamed the 911.

To this day, the Porsche 911 is regarded as the design of the century in automotive design.
Hans Springmann worked at Porsche until 1994. One of his last tasks was modeling the clay models of the last air-cooled Porsche 911 of the 993 generation.

He passed away at the age of 88 and was buried on June 20, 2025. The workforce, the Works Council and the Executive Board of Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche AG expressed their condolences to Hans Springmann’s family.
